I was watching TLC and MTV a couple days ago (don't ask. I was bored). There were some stories about parents who gave up their kids because they couldn't afford to take care of them. Which is the right thing to do in a situation like that, but that brings me to the main issue.
Being dirt poor doesn't happen overnight. If you can barely afford to feed yourself, why would you create another mouth to feed? You must be aware that you have no money. If you know your child would be living in poverty, why would you still have kids? That seems like a blatant lack of foresight and incredibly irresponsible.
If people like that would just stop reproducing, the orphan population would go down. A lot. It's like people who get pets and can't afford to take care of them, for lack of a better analogy. It contributes to the overpopulation problem. And humans are disgracefully overpopulated.
Having kids should require an IQ test and a license. And there should be a limit on how many kids you can have. People like the octo-mom and that family with 18 kids piss me off. NOBODY needs 18 kids. It seems like it's the strict religious people are the ones that love having tons of kids. Why? Who knows! This is why I don't want kids. Too many people reproducing like rabbits and making the population skyrocket. Do people just think the earth can sustain an unlimited number of people?
We all know that's ridiculous to even think that, and that's exactly why humans are pushing other species to extinction.
The one thing Obama could do to be in my good graces would be to put a 1 or 2 child policy in effect. And make licenses mandatory for breeding animals. That would be awesome. Not that it's ever going to happen.
