Julius Caesar's Death

Born in one-hundred BC Caesar was an unparalleled military Genius who never lost a battle. Caesar was one of the most ambitious people of whom we know. He was a man of boundless energy and a prolific writer. Shortly before his death Caesar became perpetual dictator of Rome. He was assassinated at the portico of Pompey. The stage was the length of the football field and held up to forty-thousand people.
The eastern end of the theater complex is closed to the public. Nine hundred senators were waiting for Caesar. Several hours after the murder his corpse was taken to his house and an autopsy was conducted. Caesar's home was at the heart of the Roman forum.
His was the first recorded autopsy. A note was found in Caesar's hand. He has twenty-three stab wounds. Only one was fatal. A physician did the autopsy. The first wound was against his shoulder. The second one was the fatal one on the side in the back.
The action was fast and five men assaulted Caesar. Other conspirators gave signals, and performed crown control. No historical accounts reveal who struck the fatal blow but did reveal ringleaders and motives. Caesar's murderers declared their crime. Cassius began the conspiracy. In the civil war, Cassius fought on the wrong side.
Cassius owed his life and rank to Caesar and hated him for it. Cassius turned to Brutus for help. Brutus' ancestor founded the republic. He was calm, cool, collected, and regarded as a man of honor. Married three times and regarded as a womanizer, Caesar had a relationship with Brutus' mother. Brutus was dogged by rumors he was Caesar's illegitimate son.
Anonymous graffiti appeared around Rome soon after Cassius ask Brutus to join the conspiracy. Caesar seems to provoke the attack. Weeks before his death a deputation made him a god. He stays in his seat and didn't get up. According to Dio, Caesar said he couldn't get up as he suffered from diarrhea. Plutarch says he did not rise as he had an epileptic fit.
The temporal lode form of epilepsy causes the loosening of the bowels. Caesar declined he wanted to be king yet he wore purple. Sporino, a soothsayer, warned him of the 15th of March. Caesar voiced suspicions of Cassius and Brutus yet dismissed his body guards right before his death. Caesar gave his friends the suspicion he did not want to live anymore because of his fading health. Calpurnia had a nightmare and begged Caesar not to go to the Senate but he defied her.
Artimedorus thrust a note in Caesar's hand and ancient texts say he never read the note but he must have read it. He was conscious and aware he is going to be killed. He brushed away the second warning about the Ides of March. It is reported Caesar gasped “you too my child” when he saw Brutus. Brutus himself was slashed on the hand. Cassius stabbed Caesar in the face and Brutus stabbed Caesar in the groin.
Not wanting epilepsy to rob him of his dynasty Caesar used the Conspirators to end his pain. He left the ordinary citizen enough money to live for three months. Caesar recently changed his will and adopted his grand-nephew to be his successor. Within three years all the conspirators were dead. It is reasonable to conclude Caesar used the conspirators to serve his own end. Two- thousand years later military achievements and writings by Caesar are studied. With his death the republic died, with his heir the empire began. Caesar was honored by all emperors the name Caesar. Caesar achieved immortality.
