Waking up I heard a loud crash coming from downstairs. I panicked when I noticed Tod was no longer beside me. Bolting down the stairs i expected a lot of things. What I didn't expect was seeing my uncle's limp body laying on the ground with his throat ripped out. The I noticed Carly my uncle's girlfriend (she didn't know about his drinking problems or the fact that he hit me) with blood trailing down her jaw line she was holding Tod who was breathing heavily. Uncle Peter was a full out baseball fan and often was at the batting cages when not drunk, out with her, or hitting me. His baseball bag laid on the ground beside where I stood. I remember pulling the bat out of the bag swiftly clenched tightly in my hands.
Carly was stunned when she heard the roar that ripped from my throat. I lunged at her she had about six inches compared to my height. That didn't stop me though. No one was taking Tod away from me. I concluded that as I swung the bat. A loud crack was heard from the bat hitting her skull. She fell to the floor dropping Tod. I checked her pulse she was alive but we didn't have long.
Tod was still breathing heavily just barely holding on to coherency. Uncle's vault was open obviously Carly had wanted some cash for whatever she was going to do once she took Tod. So I helped myself to the contents inside (money, birth certificates, etc.) Before leaving the house with Tod I took his wallet and the car keys. And escaped with Tod and the bat in my arms. Once I made it to my uncle's car I put Tod in the backseat and threw the bat in the trunk and peeled out the driveway. While glancing back at Tod I noticed two deep bite marks in his neck. It was a surprise I didn't crash the car. Our parents co-workers were right there is such a thing as vampires.
I drove from Oregon all the way to Canada. Got mine and Tod's birth certificates changed to Edwards for our last names. I also changed it on the federal website being a child of paranormal investigators had its benefits. I'd also got a new ID our social security numbers changed too. The best of all was I had gotten access to the account my parents left behind for Tod and I. With my new ID I could get weekend jobs at bars as a bar tender to keep Tod and I alive without using all the accounts money in less then a week.
Then the notes came we hadn't even been gone for a month and we were being hunted. Not hunted by humans but by vampires. How was that possible no one suspected us of anything I mean we weren't even on the news. Also we were to far away from Oregon.
After a week of sleeping Tod woke up but wasn't the same. Instead his eyes were bigger his lips were fuller. His smile more angelic and skin more pale. Even though I wasn't in school I did my homework. Found out that my brother had become a vampire. For his thirst the way I got him to quench it was by blood tablets. Which I had managed to get by getting doctors that studied vampires to help me.
I also learned that the society was an elite group of vampires that preyed on humans and the powerful of their kind. Luckily not all vampires join the Society. The first note that I got from them read:
"We know who you are. We'll be watching you and waiting for our chance to strike. You can run but you will never be able to hide. We will find you and destroy you along with your brother and all that help you before he becomes powerful,"
~THE SOCIETY
After that I destroyed my uncle's car at a junk yard and got a new one. The bat was easier to get rid of. I gave it to a seven year old who offered to trade me his school books for it, gullible child. My decision was to drive all around Alaska, Canada and America to keep Tod and others safe. We never stayed in one place for too long. It was hard sometimes but we were managing on our own. In the passing two years I learned to trust no one that your not willing to die for.
