Another failed day at the office behind him, Reed headed the short distance from his office to his apartment through the winter snow. His apartment was one of two in a small building set between two shops. It opened up into the living room that was painted an odd off white color. His couch and matching recliner were almost all that sat in the room. The couch along the wall and the recliner facing the fire place. A few pictures hanging on the wall was all there was to decorate the room. The only other piece of furniture in the room was a table by the door. It was used to catch the mail and Reed’s keys when he came through the door.
A hallway led off to one direction past the recliner, the kitchen beyond it. The kitchen was horribly small. There was room for the refrigerator and stove to fit between the wall and the small four foot counter space. Down the hall was first the bathroom, basic in every way. Past that was the bedroom. It had a bed, a dresser, and an old television set that set upon the dresser.
Pulling his coat tighter around him, Reed headed across the last road before he’d reach his home. He had plans of a hot shower followed by a quick dinner then a bit of tv before sleeping. Walking up to the three step stoop that led to his apartment, Reed found someone huddled on the cement, nearly unconscious. “Are you alright?” he asked, stepping around him to unlock his door. Kicking it open, he pulled the blond man up and carried him to the couch. “I’ll be right back.” he assured him, heading down the hallway to get the extra blankets out of the closet. He grabbed two before heading back to the stranger.
Peeling the snow soaked coat off of him, the stranger looked up at Reed, the glossy look in his pale blue eyes catching Reed’s attention. “M-M-Ms. G-G-Galavan?” the young man asked, confusion on his face.
Reed lay the man back on the couch while noticing the lack of shoes, merely a soaking wet pair of socks. He pulled them off quickly, wondering why he hadn’t any shoes. Covering him with the blankets Reed thought a moment. “I don’t know who you speak of.” he said, simply. “What’s your name?” he asked standing.
“A-A-Aaron.” he muttered through chattering teeth as he nuzzled under the blankets.
“Well, Aaron,” Reed said, “Get some rest, okay.” he said. Turning up the thermostat, Reed removed his own coat and tossed it over the recliner. Not wanting to disturb his unexpected guest, Reed headed to the bedroom, kicked off his shoes and plopped down on the bed. Turning the tv on, he was asleep in minutes.
Awaking with a start, Reed sat up straight in bed, the tv and light still on. His shirt soaked with sweat, he peeled it off and tossed it into a basket in the corner. Walking to the kitchen to get a drink of water, Reed had all but forgot his guest. He turned around and found Aaron had barely moved. He walked over to Aaron who was snoring softly in his sleep. Adorable, he thought, turning the heat down just a bit. Reed finished off his water before heading in and taking a cold shower. Midway through, his stomach let him know he’d neglected to feed it. Throwing on a pair of pajama bottoms after his shower, he rummaged through the fridge until he found a thing of bacon. “Time to shop.” he said lightly.
