I was in the dream, sometimes watching myself interact, sometimes first person.
In on of the sequences, I was inside some sort of a daycare building. It must have been, that's the only way I recall the room. The white walls where covered in crayon, brightly colored posters, and fanciful wall hangings. The floor was littered with beanbag chairs, plush animals ranging from purple gorillas to giant yellow bunnies, and used coloring books. There, in the middle of things as I was pawing over some such plaything, my young cousin Isabelle suddenly appeared beside me and asked me for a story. Only she wanted a story straight from me, not from one on the shelf. She said she had already looked at most of those. I remember taking a seat in one of the bean bag chairs with her beside me, and beginning a spooky tale set in the not too distant future. It featured two brothers, one named Jack which was the younger brother, and the other of which I can't recall anything about except his name started with a D or a G...They were in some place remarkably looking like the scenery from "I Am Legend." Streets were filled with rubble, buildings were falling apart, and people in the neighborhood, at least those remaining, were in constant fear of being cannibalized by some unnamed terrors roaming the town. I remember telling Isabelle that the boys were looking for their parents. Jack told his older brother that maybe they were safe in another town. The older brother responded by saying they should think about such things later and worry about 'the flood' now.
There's a scene scramble, and now I'm wandering the halls of this daycare center, trying to find Isabelle so that I can continue the story. I find her in another room containing variable childish things, snuggle up in a corner next to a table, and continue telling her about Jack and his older brother...Damon, I think his name might have been. Anyway, Jack and Damon understand their town is going to flood, and they rush about trying to find someplace dry as the river overswells the banks and swirls around their ankles. Jack points to a metal basin, one that looks like it might have been used in a pasture to water horses. They get into it as the water floods everything, and soon they are swept away down the streets, out of town, and into a forest. At this point, I must have decided to 'spice things up' a little, and remember saying the two boys weren't out of danger yet. Damon traced a smoke signal above the treetops, and said that they should follow it. They did, and came to a dip of sorts in the ground, as if someone had leveled out part of the forest floor. In the midst of the small dip, they found a sleeping badger. Jack suggest that they could take the animal back to town and give it to the people who where terrorizing the neighborhood. They must have thought it would be a peace offering of sorts, and least that's what I'm inferring from the dream. It all confuses me in the end, and I recall upon waking a sort of recollection that I had had the characters in the dream appear elsewhere...perhaps in another dream? Anyway, I thought it was worth writing down, seeing as how so many of my dreams have interesting story elements. It amuses me greatly that the story element in this dream literally WAS a story!!
