The End (and Beginning) of the World As We Know It
[♥]»» I'm posting this now because I'm not sure whether or not I'll be able to stomach it tomorrow without breaking down into hysterics.
As everyone knows, Barack Obama's Presidential Inauguration is on Tuesday, January 2o, 2oo9. This is a development in the most positive way for the government and the people of the United States, and possibly (perhaps even positively) beneficial to the populations of other countries around the world. Some would go so far to say as the new leader of the free world will change everything. Nothing will be the same, they say.
Now comes the hard part.
As everyone should know, the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening is closing on Broadway on Sunday, January 18, 2oo9. This is the saddest day of my life thusfar. All of those living in Southern California are dearly hoping, praying, and begging for the National Tour or Broadway casts to come back to Los Angeles, myself included. This stunning musical is based on the 1891 play by Frank Wedekind of the same name, and thus takes place in late nineteenth century Germany.
The original play was banned in Germany due to its portrayal of masturbation, abortion, rape and suicide. It deals with teenagers is a socially repressive society learning about their morality and sexuality while coming into their own. It is set to the alt-rock and folk-infused wonders of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater. It won eight Tonys in 2oo7, including Best Musical, Direction, Score, Book, and Featured Actor.
Why, oh, why must it close? Please let it come back to L.A. I jumped on the bandwagon too late, and thus missed the magic and enchantment. It has been considered by some to be the new RENT, which in and of itself ran for thirteen years. However, Spring Awakening only ran for just over two years, debuting in December of 2oo6. SAVE THIS MUSICAL. D':
That is all. I apologize.
