Though the days wore on, time for me seemed to stand still. It’s been nearly three months since “he” came. Although I have the photographs to hold onto until he returns, they just don’t fill the ever-expanding void in my soul. It’s a warm summer day out today… in California. I’ve just recently bought a box to keep my pictures in. It’s a small oak box, carved from the tree that “he” vanished closest to. While thinking about this, my eyes poured out water like Niagara Falls. I dried them on the nearest pillow, but soon I thought I might have to wring my pillow out. I rubbed the remaining tears out of my eyes right before my mom walked in.
“Is everything alright Alexa?”
“Yes, I’m just looking at some of my pictures.”
I thought in my mind, “Wherever you are, be safe.”
Safe was the exact opposite of what he was going through…
SHORTLY AFTER HIS DEPARTURE FROM EARTH
“The impact from me entering the atmosphere must have damaged my machine. Calm down now Trunks, what’s the worst that could happen.”
The capsule began to violently shake, knocking Trunks off of his feet, and rendering him nearly unconscious.
“I guess something along that line is the worst that could happen!”
The time machine he was voyaging in came to an abrupt halt. He stepped out, only to see something that brought joy, at first, to him. It was Alexa. He had to fight to keep back the tears of joy, but some slipped past. He ran to her, when he saw something that not only shocked him, but angered him also. Trunks saw, a slightly older, and more mature version of himself coming out to meet her. He drew his blade, and dashed as fast as he could to eliminate the “imposter” that was cuddling his Alexa.
“HOW DARE YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT TOUCHING HER!”
The startled couple turn to have the older Trunks be knocked back into a tree, knocking the tree down. A frightened Alexa ran screaming in terror into the nearest house. Bleeding, the other Trunks stood up, and brushed himself off. He stared at Trunks, then began to walk away.
“I’M NOT DONE WITH YOU YET. GET BACK HERE AND FACE ME LIKE A MAN.”
Trunks by now had already gone completely out of his mind, screaming things he shouldn’t have, and going a tad bit too far. Because after all, Trunks didn’t think that since he was fighting an older version of himself. The other Trunks had improved strength, speed, power, and cockiness. And you don’t EVER want to go over the line with someone like that.
The other Trunks slowly turned around. Realizing what he had done wrong, Trunks began to slowly back away, and dashed as far away from there as he could. The older Trunks caught up to him and held him by the shirt collar.
“Now what were those words of yours? “I’m not done with you yet, get back here and face me like a MAN? I’ll give you thirty seconds to explain who you are, and apologize, before there’s a you-shaped hole in the ground.”
“Mind telling me who you are first? I’m not completely helpless ya know.”
He grabbed his sword that was laying on the ground, and attempted to take a chunk out of the “other him”, when he heard the sound of metal hitting metal. In horror he stared as his now appearing to be exact double held out the SAME sword that he had gotten from his home planet. His mind began throwing out the possibilities, and he came to only one conclusion. Because his time machine had been damaged to begin with, and when he fell over, he must have been sucked out of the time stream he used prior to his arrival on Earth. He began to explain his machine, and learned the name of the “other him”. His name was Tranks, and the “other Alexa” was Alexis.
“Now I understand why you went insane back there. I can respect you for that, because I probably would’ve done the same thing if anyone tried to steal Alexis from me. But to continue your travel, there’s a junkyard not too far off. I’ll arrange it so you can get anything you need to fix your time machine.”
Day after day Trunks went to the junkyard, and had to continually explain that he had permission to gather anything he needed to fix his machine, yet day after day, the ninety year-old watch guard pulled him out for trespassing. Each and every day he would work as much as he could, while watching the two hug and talk to each other, while he would silently cry, wanting to be for, and with Alexa. When the two finally kissed, he wasn’t even able to look. The pain of loneliness began to set in. The only thing driving him on to continue working, was the thought that maybe he could get back to Alexa.
“When I get this fixed, and return to my own time and dimension, I’ll get better repairs, so I can safely visit you any time Alexa. By the very air that I breath, and the blood that runs through my veins, I swear to return to you… even if it kills me.”
He finally got his time machine in working order, said his goodbyes and switched the machine on. With a lot of smoke, and shaking, it worked. He set off for his home planet to return to his friends, and train to fend off anyone who might be willing to harm, or get close to Alexa.
He couldn’t help but smile when he thought about her. An image of her smiling flashed into his mind, and his smile turned to sobbing. The tears that fell on the floor, fell through a small crack in the floor, and left a stream of crystaly liquid on the path that he was sucked though the timeline, but this path didn’t exactly lead him back to his home town. When he stepped out of the transport, smoke covered the landscape, and the smell was extremely salty. A shadowy figure stepped through the thick fog to greet him.
