"How is a good place for me?" I asked. She looked up and smiled at me.
"For your hunting. Remember?" She said.
"Oh yeah." I flipped through the file. Claire reached over a grabbed the file.
"I can describe her for you." She said as she put the file away before a teacher saw it.
"Okay. Shoot." I leaned back in my seat. She smiled and put one finger on her chin trying to find the right words.
"She's aot like you. She is 16. She's a punk girl. Well a little preppy. I think she sings and plays guitar like you." She said. I leaned forward.
"Did you just call me a prep?" I asked. She giggled and nodded.
"Caire I'm not a -" The bell rang and she took off. I hit the table. "Dang it!" I got p and walked to my class.
The rest rest of the day flew by fast until it got to english class. I was sitting in my usual spot in the back of the class when a tall, slim man walked in the room. He had short brown hair and five o'clock shadow. He was wearing a red and brown sweater vest with tan pants and black shoes.
He dropped his suitcase on the desk and turned to write his name on the board. Then he turned and faced the class.
"Hello children." He said. Children? We are not children. "My name is Mr. Bernard." He studied each of our faces and then Claire rasied her hand.
"Yes young lady." He said.
"It's Claire." She informed him. "Anyway, Where's Mrs. Whitney?" She asked as she cocked her head to the left. He smiled.
"She is visting her aunt in New Mexico." He answered. Claire gave me a confused look and mouthed something. I just shrugged.
"I'm gonna be teaching mythology instead of english."He turned and wrote our lesson on the board. "You will need a pencil and notebook everyday. Also you're going to be assigned new seats. So gather your things together." He opened the top drawer of the desk and pulled out a sheet of paper. After five minutes had past, everyone was in new seats. I still remained in the back of the class.
"Okay class. Today's lesson is the toothfairy." He said as he underlined what he wrote on the board. Everybody either busted out laughing or filled the room with giggles. I started to raise my hand.
"Yes Mr. Sparks." He called out over hi shoulder.
"Um...Mr.Bernard. Don't you think it's retarded for a grown man to be interested in toothfairies or mythological creatures?" I asked. He slammed the marker down.
"First of all, the word retarded will now be used in my class. And yes it is weird. But I know there are some mythical creatures out in the world." I guess he had enough of the giggling as he mumbled slamming text books on our desks. He just talked for the rest of the period. Then the final bell rang and Claire and I bolted out the door.
"Wow. Mr.Bernard is a freak." She said as we took our seat on the bus. I thought he was more than a freak. But I didn't want to think about that right now.
"Can you come over tonight?" I asked.
"Sorry. No. I promised my mom I would help her with the thanksgiving plans." I raised an eyebrow.
"Thanksgiving isn't until next week. Why are you preparing early?"
"You know how my mom likes to be prepared early."
"Oh. Right. Forgot about that." I stared ot the window.
"Why do you ask anyway?" She asked.
"Kelly and I are going to the new mall tonight. Wanted to see if you could come." I said. She hugged me tightly.
"Thanks for the offer though." She smiled. The bus stopped and we got off. I pulled my hood up because the sun was too bright.
"How come you're immune to everything that vampires are not immune to?" She asked.
"I dunno. Probably because I'm only half vampire." She shrugged.
"I wonder how myhtical creatures come to exist." She said.
"Something bad must've happened." I stared at the ground. "something really bad."
