Immortal story idea
Ch 1 As the song ended, he kissed my lips gently, as if they were the most delicate feathers, and warmth blossomed beneath them as I marveled at the fact that, here I was, dancing with the most wonderful guy on earth (apart from my dad, of course; love you, Daddy ), and that I still had two more hours of this to go. I didn’t know what would crack first: my self-control, or him when I threw myself on him, not caring who saw us kissing so passionately. I had promised myself that I would behave tonight (my parents had taken sides as to how many of his bones would be broken by the me-attacking-him thing before the night was up), so I stood very still as he slowly pulled away, and I pulled him to the buffet table. I knew that we still had a whole lot of dancing ahead of us (despite him not wanting to dance, I could tell he was enjoying himself), so I needed to eat enough to keep me going. We grabbed some pizza (really, my school is so cheap, I don’t even think it was real cheese), and went back to our table in the back. Now, I know what you’re thinking (guys, you are just perverted, and girls, I didn’t see that happening at all that night), but it had been part of our deal that he could pick the table, and I knew that he preferred to sit on the sidelines of things. Anyway, we just sat there, enjoying our (fake) food, laughing, kissing (yes, despite me promising to behave, he did make it kind of hard to), drinking in the atmosphere of the dance while having the best night ever. Well, that is, until Henry decided to introduce himself. “Hello, Samantha,” he said in an Old English accent. Most people (well, the few outside the loop who don’t know him) would probably say that he comes from across the Atlantic, from England, and that he is just an American history genius, but I know the truth (yes, this means that I’m in the loop; trust me, it’s not that great of a loop). “Hello, Henry,” I said in a tight voice. I didn’t really like Henry much, particularly because he always seemed to make you feel lower than him, even when he was being humble. “May I inquire as to who this is?” he asked, motioning towards my boyfriend. “My boyfriend, Lucas,” I said, my voice still strained. He smirked, almost as if what I said was a bad joke, and I felt my temper start to flare up, like it always did around him. “Would you mind if I talk to you for a moment...alone?” he questioned, motioning with his hand towards an out of the way corner of the room. I sighed, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to find a way out of talking to him if he really wanted to talk to me, and followed him to a secluded area of the room. We passed tons of people, but none of them ever looked in our direction. We knew how to be invisible if we wanted to. “What do you want, Henry?” I asked, cutting right to the chase. I knew that the faster I got this over with, the faster I could get back to Lucas, and the faster I could find a way out of whatever it was he wanted me to do. “Well, I came here tonight to tell you one small thing, but I think something else is more important right now.” He motioned with his head towards Lucas, who was just sitting there with his eyes closed, listening to the music. “What about him?” I demanded. “Well, you should not be with him.” “What? What is wrong with me dating him?” I asked, incredulous. His carefully composed face slipped a little. “Well, for one thing, you’re going to leave him eventually, and for another, he’s mortal.” Yup, that’s right. Mortal. Almost like I’m not mortal, huh? Well, I’m not. Surprise, surprise I’m immortal. Except, its not the whole “can’t get hurt, never age” thing. No, see, I am the type where its just “live forever” thing. I still age, only once I reach full maturity (normally around age 25-30), I don’t age. And neither will Henry. That’s because...well, I’ll get into that later. “Look, Henry, I don’t care that he’s mortal. I love him, and I’m going to be with him for as long as possible. Besides, it’s none of your business, so why don’t you just tell me what you came here to tell me anyway?” He laughed. “Alright, suit yourself. I’m not the one living with the consequences for all eternity.” He stopped laughing, but the smile stayed on his face. However, it was so full of malice, I knew that I didn’t want to hear what he was going to tell me. “Samantha? It’s time.” I was utterly confused. Time for what? My birthday? My graduation? “What are you talking about? Time for what?” His smile widened. “Time to go and meet the Dragon, Samantha.” I froze, shock flooding my system. Every immortal has to meet the Dragon at least once in their life. Some are forced to meet it two times, even three. It’s a hard journey that is normally made in small groups of two or three. I knew that my turn was coming up, but I had no idea that it was so soon. “No.” Henry’s stupid smile got bigger. “You can’t refuse. If you don’t go by your seventeenth birthday, the Dragon will strike you dead. Either way, you are going. One way...or another.” Enraged, I threw a punch at him, directly at his chest. His hand deflected it with an almost lazy speed. I stalked away, knowing that if I let him get to me, I was liable to tear his head off; or, take the whole school down with my bare hands. Yeah, that’s another thing about most immortals. We are physically advanced compared to normal mortals. Over many millennia, we have perfected our ways so that we can turn them on or off at will, so that we don’t accidentally hurt anyone. These advancements are along the lines of us being faster, being stronger, having more acute senses, and several other “special” advancements that anyone is able to learn, but I haven’t learned yet. Anyway, as I stalked away from Henry, I could hear his chuckle behind me as he walked away. I was trying to compose my face into a slightly less murderous gaze, but Lucas still managed to see it before I could hide it. Lucky for me, he doesn’t ask questions, but I’m pretty sure he knows that there is something different about me. I just hope he doesn’t get too curious, or I will have to leave him. We partied for a long time, dancing our hearts’ away: me occasionally stepping on his toes (HIS feet got in MY way); him making me blush by singing along with all of the love songs (he really does make it hard too go any length without kissing him, especially when he starts whispering love songs in your ear); and eating, eating, eating By the end of the night, I was sure that my blush was permanently in place. Suddenly, his face got very nervous. I only saw it out of the corner of my eye, but I realized that he had been going through the rest of the night with as much of a mask on as I had. I turned to ask him what was the matter, when he pulled me close, and kissed me, wrapping his arms tight around me. Pulling away, I couldn’t see straight, but he just winked at me, and ran off to his car, while my parents pulled up. I waved as he passed, knowing that I would need all night to try and find a loophole for this Dragon thing. Ch 2 I had agreed to meet Lucas again the following day, and I knew staying up all night had been a bad idea. I had found no way to get out of meeting the Dragon. I knew that, sooner or later, I was going to be dragged there against my will. I opened the door, and one look at Lucas told me that he could plainly see the bags under my eyes. “Um, maybe I should come back another time?” he asked, starting to move towards his car. “Oh, no you don’t. You’re staying right here, and that’s final,” I commanded, smiling as he obeyed. Having a boyfriend who does almost whatever you say has its perks. “Okay, but only if you at least relax while I’m here,” he reasoned. I sighed, but knowing that it was probably a good idea if I took a nap (especially with him here, he was so warm, and comfy, too), I agreed, and he followed me in. We had had such a fun time last night, that it was still infecting us. We laughed, talked, and complained about it (I don’t know why my friends say it’s so hard to get a boyfriend who listens, I had no problem). We watched television, ate snacks, and basically just goofed around. I did decide to take a nap, but with him there it was really hard to. He was warm, and so comfortable, but he just held me just right, and rubbed my arm just so, that it was driving me crazy. Finally I gave up trying to sleep, and crawling up to him, we kissed... Leaving out all the “gory details”, I’ll just say that it was a while before we had to stop. My cell phone rang, and I knew that it had to be my parents (who were out, leaving my older brother with me), and that I would be in trouble if I didn’t answer. “Hello, who is it?” I asked. I was getting a new one soon, but for right now I had to live with having one that didn’t have caller I.D. “I hope you’re ready for your trip,” the other voice said. I recognized the voice. It wasn’t my parents. “Henry? What are you doing?” I couldn’t help the hysterical note that crept into my voice. I was sure I knew the reason, but I did not want to hear it. “You are being teleported in thirty seconds.” “Henry No, I’m not doing this, there is no way...” I rambled on, talking just to try and convince Henry not too, and probably confusing Lucas, too, who I had forgotten was there with me. “Five seconds.” “NO Henry, don’t ” “Three...two...one...” A small tug in the region of my gut, and then darkness. ****************************************************************************** I woke up to a babble of voices, angry ones, and the worst part was that they all sounded familiar. I sat up, conscious of where I was, and fell over as the floor beneath me shifted. “Ow,” the floor said. I looked back to see Lucas on the floor, exactly where I had been sitting. As the fact that Lucas was actually here came to mind, I suddenly could make sense of the babble. “This is an outrage There has never been a mortal in the UnderRealm, and we must abide by the law on this matter This is a grave offense ” The person yelling was sitting in a chair of gold, wearing a small yet regal-looking crown. Oh, great The King wanted to kill my boyfriend. I knew that the king was right, there were laws against bringing mortals here, but it was my boyfriend that they were talking about I couldn’t just sit back and let him die. “How about we leave the mortal matter until after we deal with the more pressing matter of Samantha’s Dragon quest?” Ugh. Henry was back. He seemed to be speaking quite freely to the king, so he was probably in some sort of high position. “He’s right. We should discuss what is vitally important, and leave the trash for later,” a tall man in bright red robes said. I didn’t recognize him, so that probably meant that he was new here. Despite being taught not to judge a book by its cover, I immediately disliked this man. “Judge Vamen is right,” the King said (oh, what a bad pun...he’s a Judge, and I immediately Judged him...wow, really bad). He turned towards me. “We must address the matter at hand of who is to go with Samantha on her quest to the Dragon.” “Who’s the Dragon?” Lucas whispered in my ear. Instantly, every eye in the room was on him, watching him, and there was dead silence. “Do not speak in our hall, mortal,” Henry spat, venom lacing his voice. When I saw Lucas’ eyes flare up, I knew we were in for some trouble. “And why should I not speak, scum?” he spat back, just as much venom in his tone. Henry simply walked up to him, and grabbing him by the throat, yanked him up to his feet with ease. “That is why...because I can kill you, without even exerting myself.” He set him back on his feet, and Lucas, rubbed his throat as Henry walked away. Henry smiled with contempt, and walked backwards until he had reached the side of the throne. “Lucas, please, whatever you do, don’t make anyone mad. Just sit there, please, calmly and quietly; they can all kill you very easily, and all of them would sleep soundly afterwards. Just please, don’t move, please.” I said all of this in a pleading voice, and he could tell how important it was just by the sound of my voice. So, he just nodded, and sat down on the floor. Even I, with my superior senses, could barely tell he wasn’t just a statue...you could barely tell he was breathing, and only his eyes moved around the room, constantly moving, yet always coming back to me. I turned to face the King, and said, “I know that this is important, and I will go on the quest; but, only if you leave Lucas alone.” My main priority was not my own safety, but Lucas’. I didn’t want to see him hurt, and I had his life in my hands. The Council had watched us with intense scrutiny, and they all looked at each other after my request. Something passed between them all at that moment, and I knew what they were thinking. Unfortunately, it was not something that I wanted done. “Well, considering that you have agreed to go on your Dragon quest, there is only the matter of the mortal at hand.” The King smiled wickedly. “Since he is, technically, not allowed out of our lands alive, we will pardon him of this small fact. “Only if he can survive accompanying you on your quest.” ideas for new characters: Mutatio : means change, alteration, transformation; the shape-shifter, the most powerful one, can take on any form, is a trickster, a deceiver, not to be trusted; very wise, very old, ancient, knows many things, will tell for a price Veneficus (the species): poisonous, magical /witch, wizard, caster of spells, old, ages backwards, very old and wise, spiteful, neutral, not an enemy, not a friend Mico : glitter, gleam, shine, sparkle, flash, be bright (aka, fairies) Umbra : shade, shadow (evil spirits, nothing more than ghosts)
