There is this wonderful movie I've seen 2 or 3 times called Like Water For Chocolate and my AP Lit teacher Ms. Harrington is letting me borrow her personal copy for Women in Lit, which is the other class I have with her. It is splendid. It's so funny and dramatic and mythical and is the best book I've read in a long time.
I have also had to learn a lot about Frida Kahlo on Thursday and Friday in both Women in Lit and AP Lit. She is my favorite painter and she was so beautiful. Everything about her interests me. She lived such a painful tortured yet exciting life. She got polio when she was five then when she was about 19 or so in 1922, she got into a street trolley accident. The hand rail came off and went through the right side of her body and came down out her v****a. Yes, her v****a. It basically ruined her reproductive organs and she was never able to have children. It ruined her. The accident and not being able to have kids are common issues addressed in her paintings. I actually want to be her for Halloween and have Bunny be Diego Riviera. He was this famous Mexican mural painter who was 40, 300 lbs. and 6 foot + when he married 22 year old 98 lb. 5 foot 3 Frida. They had a tempestuous marriage filled with cheating and turmoil, but they were one another's soul mate.
These things and the Mexican food and clothes and music have made me very inspired and restless lately. I would love to go to Mexico to learn more about Frida. I think if Harrington allows it, I will do a biography on her for my Women in Lit final project.
