Ch. 3

When they got to the cliffs, Katie led Maria to a cave halfway up. Inside you could hear the ocean beating against the rocky outcrops that made the foot of the island. The walls were multi-hued stone that had been worn smooth over the ages, and the floor was slippery, slightly damp and green from rainwater from a hole whose light could be seen shining from deeper inside.
“What are we here for?” Maria pressed, having asked when they first arrived.
“Sit here,” Katie gestured to a chair-like formation in the side of the cave situated in the ring of light that the hole allowed into the dark of the cave, “I took you here because this place is somehow connected to what I can do.” Maria blinked blondely and plopped onto the stone seat.
“When this island was first settled, my family came here. The youngest was my namesake Katherine Eileen Silverman. She had a different last name at first, but she changed it. She, like me, possessed strange abilities. Some called it magic. She could fly, and weave strings of words to create incredible occurrences. No one knows exactly what awakened her powers, but while she was here, she carved this cave.
“Later, the Lighthouse was built, this own was founded, and my family moved here. After the accident that you dreamed of, Grey and Rosemary’s accident, the family powers woke up in my mother She thought she had sent Grey and Rosemary on. Your dreams, and the powers waking in me mean that Grey and Rosemary are back, for whatever reason. I’ll have to stop them, and do a better job than my mother did twenty years ago.”
