Gasp! Could it be? A story about a cat that isn't dead!? >< So I'm on a writing spree write now so I decided to write a short story on one of my BloodClan cats >< I'll be writing another one about another of my BloodClan cats later, possibly tonight, we'll just see how it works out. Hope you enjoy!
I remember clearly, the look of determination on her face. The pale cream fur on the top of her head made her look bald almost. I used to tease her about it. But now… Now I wouldn’t be able to do that. “But why?” I hissed, once again trying to discourage her from what she was saying.
“Because Scratch, this isn’t the life for me. I wasn’t meant to grow up killing cats and dogs, taking fangs and claws from them. I feel the forest calling me, asking for me to come, to get away from this dingy, cold place. This place is filled with nothing more than cold hearted, blood thirsty cats who want to kill each other and everyone else.” She mewed back to me.
“Listen to yourself! You’re one of us!” I hissed back, becoming agitated with her.
“I was, yes, and I can’t ever take back up I have already done. That’s why I’m leaving now. Out there, I don’t have to kill unless for life or death. Here, I must kill.” She whispered back to me, unperturbed. Oh, how that got under my fur! She was always so serene, so quiet and kind. I knew this wasn’t the life for her and that’s why I was so mad! She couldn’t just leave me!
“But I need you!” I tried again, wanting her to desperately stay.
She smiled softly at me and it made me want to claw her face off. “I’m sorry. I offered to let you come, but you’ve refused. It’s either I stay or you come, and I’m not staying.” She mewed, turning her gaze to the forest behind her.
“Well I’m not going.” I hissed defiantly.
“Then we part.” She mewed, looking back to me. “I-” She began, but that insistent smile, that happily sad face, the loving looks, it got to me, finally. I snapped as I lashed out, trying to claw her. She merely stepped back and I lunged.
Turning, she sprinted off and into the territory of loners and rogues. On the other side, she stopped and stared at me. She mouthed something to me before she turned and sprinted off, into the forest. The last thing I saw of her was her tail as it trailed after her into the undergrowth.
I glared heatedly after her. “Good riddance!” I spat angrily before turning around and padding off. There was something I couldn’t register. I felt something strange, but it wasn’t until I had come to my nest, settled in the ruins of a trash can, that I realized what this feeling was.
‘No! I don’t care about her or miss her or even love her! She left the greatest Clan ever! It’s her fault! She could’ve stayed here, in BloodClan, where the strong live, but she chose to leave, not me!’ I wanted to yowl out in frustration. I remembered her mouthing something to me. What had it been?
Thinking back on it I wasn’t for sure. Nor did I care to know any more. That was past, she was gone and I didn’t care for her anymore.
--
It was moons later, much later. I was heavy with kittens as I padded by myself off away from the others.
My paws, not of my own accord, had taken me to the forest and I hissed out in frustration at the very thought. Suddenly, my pelt stood on end and I hissed angrily at the cat that stood opposite me until I noticed that familiar bald-looking head.
“You!” I screeched, flinging myself at her, but she merely side stepped me, a smile on her face. My stomach was in my way, that was why I had missed and hadn’t put much effort into the lunge.
“Yes me, I see you’re expecting. That’s wonderful.” She mewed softly.
“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t kill you here and now.” I spat at her.
She smiled sadly at me. “You don’t want to.”
I halted, frozen in time for a moment before I hissed at her again. “Get out. You’re the one that left me, leave!”
“I offered, you could’ve come with me. We don’t belong here, you know it as well as I did. So, you left me just as much as I left you.” Her words struck a cord in my heart, but I shook it off.
“Leave.” I hissed again, noting out of the corner of my eye a couple of cats making their way down towards us. Hissing, I turned and lunged at her again, swiping at her face.
She backed up and mouthed something to me before she took off, sprint out of sight once again.
“Anything wrong?” The tom mewed, the father of my kits.
“Nothing I can’t handle.” I spat, turning and stalking off, climbing into my den. Settling down, I thought back to her. What she had mouthed, it had been the same thing she had mouthed to me before, moons ago. And I realized, then, that perhaps I did care for her. I was just too stupid and too oblivious, trying to push it back, to realize it myself.
‘Thank you, I will always love you Scratch. Remember that.’ That was what she had mouthed to me and I realized I had said something to her, not with words, but with my actions and she had seen it. I hadn’t actually been hurting her, but trying to protect her by making it look like I chased her out.
With a sigh, I rested my head on my paws and smiled sadly. ‘Yes, I love you too, sister. Thorn.’
