♥---------------ღ--------------♥ Chapeter 1
There was an air of emptiness that surrounded her as she sat atop the castle, the one that she had actually lived in. Danielle still didn’t know why this lord had control over her, but she would be stuck in this place until he needed her for another mission. It would just be another assassination, that was all that she seemed to be useful for any more. The teen was barely half the size of some of the men that she had taken down. That last one, Lord Balasent if she remembered correctly, had been at least 7 feet tall, must have weighed at least 200 pounds. She was barely 5 foot, weighing less than 90 pounds. The perfect weapon. When you were that small, you didn’t attract the attention of many.
Someone was walking up the stairs behind her; she could hear them when she shouldn’t have been able to. It was odd, being the only one of your kind. Danielle was in a class of her own. She was something that no one could explain. Heightened senses, low body mass, powerful physical strength, it was all different to most other people. There was really nothing to explain, or rather, no one to explain things. She was just as confused as every other teen was, except it was harder for her to explain. The girl finally moved when she felt that the person’s presence was close enough. Her daggers slid out of their sheaths and into her waiting hands as she spun around, dagger to the boy’s throat.
“You should know not to sneak up on me by now.” She spoke softly; her voice was carried on the wind so that it would reach him no matter what. Matthieu smiled at her from where he stood, despite the fact that there was a dagger to his throat, ready to slit it if he didn’t say the right thing. Even if they were friends, Danielle wouldn’t hesitate to kill him if she had to. They were as close to friends as one could be with a tool and her accomplice. She pulled back the dagger, removing at least some threat to the teen if he screwed up.
“The Lord wants to see you and I have something that you might find interesting.” He said, pulling out a sheet of paper. Danielle snatched and read the passage, glaring up at him. Matthieu quickly explained his point so that she wouldn’t slit his throat. “He’s afraid of you. The Lord knows that you’re going to kill him eventually. Not to mention I have another story for you.” She grabbed the pages out of his hand and slid them in the side pocket of the pants that she was wearing. In this day and age, it was highly unlikely for women to be wearing pants, it was considered improper in many places in the land. No one bothered with her, she looked enough like a boy as it was. Matthieu was watching her leave, she could feel his eyes on her back while she was walking. They both knew that she could never kill him, even if it seemed like that at times. The night had only just started calming her down when he had gotten up there, which was why she had acted so coldly.
Danielle walked slowly to the Lord’s room; he obviously had another assignment for her, even if it wasn’t going to be a good one. Assassination was never a fun business, but it was her job and she’d be damned if she didn’t do it well. Sure the man only had control over her because she was supposedly his daughter, family tended to stick together, even if one was just a tool to the other. The door lay open, he was waiting for her arrival and as she heard him speak, she resisted the urge that was tugging on her arms, moving them toward the daggers at her sides.
“Have you decided that I’m already not worth your time Danielle?” He asked, making her flush as her hands moved away from the daggers. This man made her uncomfortable and she knew it. Danielle stepped forward, into the man’s chambers, watching him stare at her frame, knowing exactly what he was thinking. It was a simple question, one that popped to most people’s minds when they saw her. Small, short, scrawny, it didn’t even look like she would be able hurt them, let alone kill them, but that’s what gave her the advantage. Their silence continued throughout the minute that she stood there. “I need you to kill someone for me.” she rolled her eyes.
“I assumed that. Who is it?”
He smirked. “You will find out. You’re to go to the south, heading to Flexiant.”
