“Full Moon Sway”
“So, what is your favorite quote, then?”
I grasped the neck of my guitar. “uh, it’s like this… The guitar is the human soul sending message through only six strings… something like that…” was my reply to her question.
“s**t, that was dull, where’d you get that?” She sneered, sarcastically.
“Watching too many jap anime, I suppose.” We both laughed. We two are the only people talking in that jeepney, and we’re having a great conversation, laughing our hearts out.
“Why are you taking me to the place you used to go in High school?” she asked as we boarded down the jeep, into a seemingly busy road.
“Well, I’m just going to visit, then I’ll show you something…” was my immediate response. She lit up a cigarette as we continued to walk. Passed the security guards, along the catwalk, the tall obelisk, and arrived at a man-made lake. She sat down at one of the benches under the trees to take a quick break.
“Know what, I think I’m beginning to like this place.” She uttered.
“You like this lake? Hah! Look at it, it’s so green, I think you could walk above it! It could be mistaken for a swamp!” It’s my time for sarcasm. She flicked her cig at me to make me stop.
“C’mon, it’s near evening… I’ll take you to the spot I wanted you to see.” I invited her. We continued to walk along the path. We arrived at a closed gate. Beyond it was a mini-park, and a river.
I showed her how to climb the gate, I gave her a hand. I know what we’re doing was trespassing, but I had no choice, I have to show this to her.
“Good thing there’s no guards here…” she said, as she breathes a sigh of relief. We both strolled down the park and came to a halt. Both of us looked at the river below. The water was jet black, just as I expected. It reflected the stars, and the clouds. Damn. Clouds… I don’t need them right now.
“Now that we’re here, what is it that you’d like to show me?
“Wait for a moment…”
I started looking at the clouds, wishing they’d disappear as I stare. Minutes later, my prayers were answered. Lo and behold… the full moon.
“Hey look, the moon finally showed up.” I broke the silence.
“Is that what you wanted to show me?”
“uh… yes… isn’t it beautiful?”
“Geez, you’re quite sentimental guy.” As she said that, she looked at the sky. She showed a bit of enthusiasm as she did. I was looking at the river when she happens to glance to me.
“What the hell are you doing looking down…? The moon’s what you wanted to show me… it’s waaaay above.” She commented.
“I was looking at the reflection… the moon on the water, it’s dancing…” I muttered while unpacking my guitar, that was dangling on my back.
“The way it dances in the water looks beautiful, doesn’t it?” I connoted while tuning the guitar as I sat down.
“Yes it is. It’s pretty beautiful… you know, you’re such a nice guy, you being a sentimental person… it’s kind of sweet.” She said with a faint smile, as she brushed her hair aside with her fingers.
As she mentioned that, I also began to smile. Lips parted, I started playing the guitar and sang a verse:
“Full Moon Sway…”
“Gently in the night of one fine day…”
“On My Way…”
“Looking for a moment with my dear…”
While I sang, she hummed to the tone.
“Moon On The Water, huh?” she said. Apparently she knows the song from the anime “Beck”.
She abruptly stopped at the chorus.
“I wish my sweetheart was here.” She said. I nearly choked, but it was expected, she was taken… and I just invited her here after all.
“What would you think of me then, if we have met years before?” I whispered while playing the guitar. As I breathe a sigh of tension, she turned around, she was smiling, still.
“Pardon?” she said. I was nearly dying, I though she heard what I whispered. I continued to pluck the guitar as she sang to the tone. It was near the end of the song when she stopped.
“Years ago…? If you’ve had shown me this before… That would have been sweet…” she said. “Thanks.” she added. I strummed down the E chord. The song was over. The moment was also over. I started to pack the guitar when everything went dim, her face a brisk blur in the distance.
“Thud!" I fell from the bed…
“It was a dream, then… I thought it would be too good to be true…” I muttered in a rather harsh tone.
“But I wish it was real… even if for only a single eve…” I sighed. I looked outside the window. It ornates a beautiful full moon outside.
“Full moon, huh? Sounds quite cheesy.” I laughed, making fun of myself for the ridiculous setting of my dream. I got up from the sleazy stature, grabbed the guitar on the bed and started playing “Moon on the Water” once again.
“Full Moon Sway…”
“Gently in the night of one fine day…”
“On My Way…”
“Looking for a moment with my dear…”
