The only happy place I had was at school. When I returned home from a long day at school, my parents would watch over me, checking to see if I did anything wrong. If I made a wrong move, they would beat me to death, then send me to my room. They wanted a perfect child and I try to be as perfect as I can, but it isn't ever good enough for them. The only thing important in my life is my crush at school. She is the only one noticable in the hallways with her brightly colored clothes and smile. She hangs around with her friends every moment of every day.
Her name is Kayla Sha. She rides the bus home everyday and has never missed a single day of school in her life. She is one of the most popular people I have ever met. Her Blue eyes sparkle as she laughs down the hallway and her white teeth glow. Her long blonde hair sways back and forth as she walks and her posture...
I actually talked to her today alone. She was sitting in the janitors closet sobbing to herself. Luckily I had to do a job and clean the hallways, (Heh, if you call that lucky)
and I saw her there. When I opened that door, she sat there and watched my eyes while tears poured off her red cheeks. I bent down in front of her, holding onto the mop.
"Kayla? What's wrong?" She bursted into more tears and threw herself into me tenderly, wrapping her arms around my neck and burying her face into my chest. My shirt became soaked within a moment of her sitting there.
"Kayla?" I pushed away and looked into her hurt eyes.
Her school uniform was wrinkled deeply, because of the way she was sitting, curled into a little ball on the floor.
"They're dead Hay, they're dead..." She mumbled miserably.
"What happened? Who's dead?" She didn't answer me, so a moment later, I grabbed her shoulder and gently shook her once. "What happened?" I half yelled.
"They're dead!" She screamed, shoving me to the floor and running out into the hallway.
I quickly picked myself up and dropped the mop. "Kayla! Come back!" I took off after her as fast as I could run.
She was already halfway down the stairs...
I jumped over the railing and dropped in front of her, not only rolling down the rest of the stairs, but injuring my leg. Again I got up.
She stopped, horrified. "Leave me alone." Her bottom lip shivered and her voice came out in a squeak.
"Why? Kayla, if you would just tell me what's wrong, I could help you...."
She cut me off with her eyes and a shrill silence filled the air.
"You don't know... what's it's like... to loose everything in one day. One day!"
