My Favorite Fable
Hey everyone, this is my most favorite fable - I think it's by Confucius, and it teaches a great lesson.
There was a girl who came from a poor family. The family had underwent hard times, and had very little luxuries, but on the girl's birthday, they managed to scrounge up what little money they had to give her a present. They gave her enough money to buy a new dress that she wanted.
The girl was very excited, because there was an upcoming dance, and there was a boy she liked - a lot, in fact, but she was always too shy to ask him, worried that he might turn her down because of her family's financial situation, or that she wasn't pretty enough. So she went to the store in great hopes that she might find a dress that made her look good.
When she got to the store, she decided to go browsing around the clothes first, but the salesman noticed her, and offered to show her a flower hair accessory. The girl refused at first, knowing that her little money was for a dress. But she gave in later, just out of curiosity. When she first put on the flower, she felt no different, and was about to give it back, when she noticed her reflection in the mirror.
She was so pretty! The girl was so excited that she bought the flower hair accessory without a second thought. She dashed out of the store, so excited and wanting to show her mother how she looked, that she didn't even stop to apologize to an old man who she bumped into in her way out of the store.
She was so happy, she was running all the way back to her home. Along the way, people passing by stopped to say how pretty she looked. The boy she liked a lot even asked her to go the dance! Full of happiness, she was very confident and content when she finally arrived back home.
When she did get back home, she noticed the old man who she had bumped into at the store was at her front step! Ashamed and feeling guilty, she bowed and started to apologize, but the old man stopped her.
Smiling, he said, "You were so happy coming out of the store, that you dropped it when you bumped into me," and in his hands was her flower hair accessory.
Keep confidence in yourself, and you will achieve your dreams biggrin
