Drawing Dragons
My pen flows across the paper
My hand moves on its own
I don’t really pay attention
As a life is sown
A curve becomes a head
A sharp line, a claw
An eye stares back from the notebook
Above a tooth filled maw
With wings spread wide
Flying across the page
Above an ancient castle
Victim to the dragon’s rage
Knights running from the barracks
Guards stand ready at their towers
The battle carried on
For several bloody hours
Stone walls crumble
The mighty keep falls
The wandering minstrel
Can hear the monster’s calls
He told this tale
For a century and a day
But before that could happen
I was pulled away
My teacher calls my name
She points to the board
She demands the solution
I answer “thirty-four”
And by some miracle
(Holy praise for the gods)
I get the problem right
Against all the odds
Instead of enjoying my revelry
I ignore chemistry
And go back to the history
Of Elven lands and chivalry
As the bell rings
I pack up all my things
I smile to myself
Knowing that I can always escape
On majestic dragon wings
If anyone reads this, I'd love to hear any comments you have. I usually don't write poetry, so it's not as good as what I normally write... I still try, though X3
