Ok this is not for the faint of heart!
This is a story that absolutely made me sick. I only blogged this to pass the message to boycott this so called artist (more like animal abuser - killer) Guillermo Habacuc Vargas
In 2007 Guillermo Vargas allegedly took a stray dog called Natividad from the streets of Managua, Nicaragua, and tied it to a short leash as an exhibit in an art gallery. The dog was left to die with food just beyond its leashes length as patrons passed by in the gallery. This is art???? This is disgusting! It's disgusting that he did this and discussing that patrons walked by. Now there is a rumor that the dog escaped or was kidnapped and I would hope that was true. The director of the Códice Gallery is reported as saying that the animal was fed regularly and was only tied up for 3 hours but if you viewed the photographs (see the video below) and you tell me.
Ok this video has subtitles in spanish but music in english that is very fitting. Regardless if you don't speak spanish (I don't) the images tell the story. This video is not for the faint at heart and shows images of the dog while on "display". It does not show the dogs death let me make this clear. It is disgusting to say the least (its 1min 20 sec. long).
Here is the statements the so called artist Guillermo Habacuc Vargas made:
"Hello everyone. My name is Guillermo Habacuc Vargas. I am 50 years old and an artist. Recently, I have been critisized for my work titled "Eres lo que lees", which features a dog named Nativity. The purpose of the work was not to cause any type of infliction on the poor, innocent creature, but rather to illustrate a point. In my home city of San Jose, Costa Rica, tens of thousands of stray dogs starve and die of illness each year in the streets and no one pays them a second thought. Now, if you publicly display one of these starving creatures, such as the case with Nativity, it creates a backlash that brings out a big of hypocrisy in all of us. Nativity was a very sick creature and would have died in the streets anyway. Is this art? Is this acceptable? This man not only is NOT a artist but I feel he needs to be prosecuted - regardless he needs to be Boycotted in the art community and boycotted period.
