Stitting on the cold and damp grass she sat, wait. Waiting for something, maybe waiting for her tears to stop. Maybe waiting for the rain to let up. Who knows, but she just sat there, her emerald sun dress drenched and clinging to her cold and shivering body.
From a darkened window across the deserted street a face glanced out into the stormy night.
"What the," Jon's voice slid out of his mouth laddened with sleepiness. Jon's eyes squinted as he tried to make out the lone figure. "April?" Her name passed from his lips clouding over the glass and hazing Jon's vision momentarialy.
The bed creaked as Jon slipped from within its safe and warm confines. Silently he made his way to the empty living room and creaked the front door open. The sweet smell of the night's spring rain filled his nostrils as he was suddenly pushed into memories.
"Jon!" April's voice shrieked laced with the happinessn
"April!" Jon's voice danced, his arms wrapping around April, the smell of the rain drops in her hair mezmorized him to pull her closer.
"Come on! Let's go dance in the rain Jon!" he could feel April tugging at him softly.
"O.k." Jon followed her out of the door. "April," his sentence was cut short as April's soft and delicate finger tips touched his lips.
"Shhh," a smile played across her face, like the fragrence of a flower it maked the world a little better. "You don't need to say it," April giggled, "I love you."
Jon smiled, April knew him all too well.
April's small hands slid into his coarse and hardend hands as they ventured out into the night, the smphany of crickets' chirps egging them on.
"Aren't these moments the best?" April asked, her lips meeting Jon's.
"Of course." Jon wispered as their bare feet danced across the wet grass.
The memory faded and Jon found himself staring out of his doorway again. Sighing and blinking away the small tears forming in his eyes Jon made his way into the rain. His feet crunched the grass as he slipped over his yard and into the street, his red pajama pants becoming drenched.
"April!?" he yelled out into the night.
The girl looked up, wipping the rivers of tears and rain from her face. "What?" the word fell from her lips choaked with with pain.
"What are you doing out here?" Jon asked, regretting it as the the last word formed on his tongue.
"What do you think!" April glared at Jon.
"Sorry! Can't I ask?" Jon jumped back as if her words had struck at him.
"What ever," April turned away from him, "You wouldn't care anyway."
"April you know I would," Jon nelt beside her, "You can always tell me." Jon stopped and whipped grass from his feet. "Please?"
April's hand reaced into a small pocket on her dress and withdrew a small folded paper. "This is what is the matter," her voice cut through the air with sarcasm.
Taking the paper from her shaking hands Jon unfolded it.
"April," Jon choaked back the waterfall of tears as anger flared all over his body, "What about this?"
"Hmm well, you know the whole article and stuff." Her fingertips pointed at a black and white picture who's ink was now blurring from the raindroplets falling on it. "Mostly the fact it's about you," April ripped the paper from Jon's hands, her sad and longing eyes staring one last time at the article until at last her small fingers ripped it to shreads. " Getting married Jon?"
Everything that had been holding April together vanished as a flood of anger, greif, jealousy, and sadness over took her.
"When were you gonna tell me? When you were married and had a kid who didn't look like you at all? Or when you found out she gave you a disease? Huh Jon?" April spat out words like venom.
"April, I was going to tell you!" Jon's hand landed softly on her cheeks and wiped off a tear. "I thought you'd figure it out your self."
"What, by watching you everyday, by just glancing out side my window and see you frolicing with your little slut!" April rose as did her voice.
"April, you're going to wake the whole neighborhood!" Jon tried to quiet her.
"I don't care! I hope I do so they can see they have a dumbass for a neighbor!"
"April! Stop it!" he couldn't take it any longer, Jon rose and pulled April into his arms tightly, his lips angerly finding hers.
At first April fought to get away but soon she stopped and just stood, the anger from her eyes fading away.
"Shhh," Jon's lips parted from hers and his finger tip replaced them on her lips. "Just listen April."
April stared up at Jon, her eyes glazing over as her lips slowly parted and she whipsered, "'I love you,' remember when you used to say that?"
"April shhh."
"No Jon, remember? Remember when I was the only one you used to say that to. Remember that night when I dragged you outside into the rain," April's whipser drifted off into the howling wind. "Don't you remember?" April now pleaded with Jon.
"Of course I remember April, but you need to understand, I love Catherine now."
"No," April wispered, "You don't love her, you're just lusting for her and her slutty ways."
"April stop calling her a slut!"
"She is one though."
