Wow, first entry. I hardly know what to do with myself! xd
There are so many directions I could possibly go with this that I have no idea where to start. I may eventually dedicate it entirely to book review and discussion, as I do more reading than is probably good for me most days and honestly wouldn't have it any other way. Until then, I guess I'll say a little bit about me.
I'm 24 year old Canadian university student, approximately half way through my Masters Degree in English Literature. I love fantasy, and specialize in children's fantasy. Pratchett, Lewis, Tolkien, Pullman, Rowling and Adams all have cherished places on my would-be bookshelf (currently, the floor of my apartment xd ) along side some of the more classic writers such as Potter, Barrie, Anderson and Grimm.
Currently, my research centers around the use of gateways or barriers in children's fantasy, and to what effect authors use such devices, what politics determine their usage. I'm also interested in an academic study on Engrish, and am getting started on an article that I hope to submit for publication by the end of the summer with any linguistics journal that will have me.
Beyond my academics, I have little room for a life. sweatdrop Although I am maintaining a long-distance relationship with a wonderful boyfriend, and am now the proud parent of three hermit crabs (Hermie, Pinchy and Zoidberg) and one male Beta (Tibbles, affectionately nicknamed Pomato Fish). Outside of my research, classes and part time job as a Teaching Assistant, the critters and boy comprise the bulk of my life. Although I am fondly looking forward to the day that I can finish my PhD (or MLIS) and get a real job!
Cheers!
