Several days after the meeting with Luke Kera found herself in similar situations. She would be quietly working on the file, trying desperately to get it prepared in a manner that would allow her to go over the information logically when something would come up. Everyone else seemed to be having a really bad week, as Kera was constantly required to come fix some appliance, some trinket or an argument of some sort. This rapidly became trying on Kera's nerves and she was getting closer and closer to snapping.
It took over a week for Kera to finish just a day's work compiling all the file's data onto her computer and then backing it up onto her flash drive and again on her SD disk. With the compiling finally done she tucked away the file in her messenger bag and set to work looking over the data on the computer. The only advantage to doing the work by herself was that she knew where everything was and she was already familiar with all the data. But, she wouldn't have long to look over this data as she had to go fix yet another string of problems.
It took yet another week before Kera and everyone else left for the moutains in Colorado. It was a long winding journey up the mountains and the traveling did nothing for Kera's nerves, if anything it made them worse. Cait and Ellie argued for most of the entire trip, and Sandra and Kiri slapped each other for the rest of it.
Kera seriously came to considering all of their murders, except Jess of course, but even Jess had been acting odd recently. Kera though, was too stressed out to notice the difference, she only knew she herself was going crazy.
So, they arrived at the supposed hideout of the idols very tired and angry and then everything really started going wrong. Kera began setting up their base in a nearby cabin and after she had finally set up all of the survelance cameras and microphones she headed inside to see everyone else asleep. It was pretty late, almost 10:30 so she wasn't surprised. She merely took her laptop into a different room and tried to open her files only to find that her memory on the computer had been wiped clean, everything was gone.
Kera struggled with herself to keep from shouting and waking everyone up. "You've got to be...." she mumbled incoherent sentences to herself angrily, pulling out her flash drive and SD card. "Someone has been messing with my computer again, that doesn't just happen on its own...." But the files that had been saved to the flash drive and SD card had gotten corrupted on the trip over, and Kera dimly remembered Kelly messing around with some magnets on the trip over right near her bag..."Dang it!" She growled under her breath.
She walked over to her messenger bag and pulled out the undamaged paper file, grateful that she had thought to bring it with her. She smiled and sighed softly, at least paper was much more reliable than technology. She took out her pen and set to work.
The next morning she was dimly aware of a low murmur of voices in the other room. She looked up blearily and realized that she had fallen asleep while looking over the files, she closed her eyes angrily and rubbed her face roughly with her hands. She then stood up, closed the file folder and tucked it back into her messenger bag. She walked into the room where everyone else was sitting on the beds and talking quietly, they looked up at her entrance and smiled.
"Morning," Kera mumbled taking a seat on the floor near the doorway.
"Morning," they greeted back.
"We were just talking about how we want to get started," Ellie explained, offering a mug of coffee to Kera.
Kera shook her head vigorously, declining the coffee, "Okay, what do you have decided so far?"
"Not too much, we haven't really had time to look oever the files yet..." Kiri answered.
Kera bit her lip and closed her eyes, "Oh right, we've only got one copy...shoot..." she took a deep breath and opened her eyes, "Well...from what I've figured out, it shouldn't be too hard to break into their hideout..."
"Do you have a file that we can see?" Cait asked.
Kera kept a calm face on the outside, but was frowning and debating with herself just under the surface. 'If I let them see the file...no, that's not their fault that they've been having bad luck, its ridiculous to think such things.' Kera smiled and nodded, "Yeah, let me go get it." She left to the other room and pulled the file out of her messsenger bag. She then brought it back into the other room and handed it to Cait. "Here."
Cait smiled, "Thank you, it helps to have a little bit of visual aid." She began grumbling under her breath, "Even though Luke should've done the work himself, he had time...."
"It's okay, not his fault," Kera defended him even though she felt the same way as Cait did. It wouldn't even have been this bad if all the work that Kera had done to compile the file on the computer hadn't just gone up in flames.
Cait stared at her questioningly, "I don't think that's what you really think...."
"Sure it is, he's lazy, but I'm sure he would have done the work himself had something not come up." Kera argued calmly.
"How do you know soemthing came up?" Sandra asked.
"Well, he'd better hope something did, otherwise after this he'll be paying for it," Kera smiled. "How's that?"
"Much better..." Cait replied somewhat nervously.
"Anyway, back to the plans...." Kiri prompted.
"Yeah, so I figured we can sneak in through one of the various air vents in the cave..." Kera said, imagining the blue prints of the mine that she had seen.
"How do you know there'll be air vents?" Kelly questioned.
"Well its a mine, so there has to be otherwise everyone inside would have suffocated," Kera answered. "I noticed that the idols might be working under a mining company so I checked out all the mines that were in mountain ranges and the cave that the idols are using used to be a mine."
"Sweet! So that means we get to make a sneaky entrance right?" Kelly asked excited.
"I sure hope so," Kera grinned.
A few hours later they had concluded upon a final plan, Jess would stay behind to watch over their base and execute instructions to everyone while inside the mine and everyone else would invade the base. Everyone was equiped with a headset that was tuned into the groups own station and no one else could use that same station without the proper code.
With everything prepared they began moving in....
