The War that Never Was

Chapter VII

The large sun rose in the sky making the trees cast shadows onto our tent. I woke up after hearing mumbling and gawking. I sat up rubbing my eyes and turning around as I started to panic. I shook Kai roughly while he sat up rubbing his eyes.
    "I can explain."
He was cut off. "Yea explain to us."
"I did this for our empire. I didn't want to be killed for fighting for my empire and be killed by my own people" I stood up.
They started to mumble and nod. Kai stood up.
"Doesn't she remind you of the Queen?"
They nodded and started to talk amongst themselves again.
"What do you suppose we should do Reks?"
"It's Aurora." I spoke then realized I didn't have any clothes on as I quickly changed into some. I pushed by the crowed not stating that Kai was naked as well. Everyone watched me and walked away from the tent as Kai got dressed. I stared blankly at the horizon and kept walking with my gunblade hilted on my back. Everyone followed taking the hint that I was the leader still. Kai followed beside me. We walked the route that we did the other day past the green plains. The sun beat down on us as sweat trickled down my face. We didn't bring water or food because we didn't want to be weighed down.

We arrived at the tall grasses where we were ambushed. I stopped and so did the others. I nodded to them as I bolted through the grass like a starving tiger chasing it's prey through the grass. The grass was up to our faces though we kept running straight. We finally made it out but we kept running in case any Tuor soldiers were after us. I finally slowed down as we reached the outskirts of the Tuor empire. It was desert with cacti and Cactuars running about. Cactuars are cacti though are like Gumby. Very annoying creatures so we stayed our distance from them. We arrived to a dark crystal that absorbed the sunlight and was near a small oasis. I stopped to let people get a drink and rest.
"Alright you can rest up, be on your guard because this isn't our territory."
They nodded and drank from the water. I saw down on a rock. Kai walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around me and rested his head on my shoulder. We both looked at the horizon where we could faintly see the walls of the Tuor City.
      "Are we ready?" He asked.
      I nodded. "Yes."
He grabbed my hands and held onto them and kissed my head.
      "Don't be so tense."
I sighed and nodded. "I can't help it though... I feel like we are going to our death."
He sighed and stood me up infront of him.
"Don't worry, you are a good leader." He embraced me once more to his chest.
I could hear murmuring and laughing from the others. He waved them off with his hand and kissed my lips softly.
      "Ready?" He asked.
I nodded. "Alright. Lets go people!" I felt kind of bossy but they didn't seem to mind. We started to walk again looking around.

The sun was setting as we arrived closer to the city. There was no oasis where we were and no cover.
        "Alright, lets rest."
They sat down and some took naps. I couldn't help but stare at the city as I loaded my gunblade. Kai came over to me and sat next to me.
"Aurora. If I die, I want you to keep a memory of me... Always."
My eyes slightly watered as I turned around and hugged him tightly.
        "Don't say things like that!"
He smiled and brushed my hair out of my face that was growing longer.
        "I wont."
I nodded. Everything went quiet as the sun went down over the trees but still lit up the sky. Glancing over I heard a bush rustle and watched it intently as it stopped. My body tensed with Kai's. He must have heard it too. My heart started to pound as I stared at the bush. Loud firing soon filled the air as everyone woke and ducked down.
        "s**t!" Kai shouted. "Attack!"
I pulled my gunblade free and aimed at the bush and fired as a choking noise was heard. An officer fell onto the ground from where the bush was. The firing stopped for a few minutes. We were all panting. Tuor soldiers soon emerged from their hiding places with their guns at the ready. They surrounded us 18 to 12. I growled then lunged at one of the soldiers in front of me decapitating him watching him fall to the ground. I turned while the Tuor soldiers opened fire. I grabbed the machine gun from the soldier I killed and opened fire on the other Tuors as they fell. I could hear other choking from our men killing the ones I knocked down by stabbing their blades into their torsos. There were 15 of the Tuors as I lunged at another soldier knocking him back. I fired one bullet at the soldier between his eyes. I turned around looking for where Kai was. I couldn't see him as my heart started to race in panic. Kai jumped in front of me lunging at the Tuor soldier ready to kill me. He growled and slashed at the soldier as he fell. It scared me when Kai fought. It reminded me of a lone wolf up against the Alphas and the Betas. My heart was relieved though I heard more choking noises coming from our side. There was only 4 of us now and there as 10 of them. I turned around and screamed feeling an unbearable pain in my side. I fell onto my knees looking up at the Tuor that shot at me. Growling I slowly stood up and slashed at him finding my sword stabbing into his chest through his armor. My eyes felt heavier as I fell with the soldier onto the ground. I landed ontop of the dead corpse. My eyes got heavier and heavier as I watched Kai now fight on his own. I tried to shout but couldn't.
        "Kai."
My eyes closed. My world was now seen in black.

Waking up in darkness scared me as my heart started to race but I felt calm for some reason. Was I alive? No, the opposite. I stood up and looked down at my hands. Looking up I saw my mother and brother. They smiled warmly at me. Jasper waved at me and ran over to me and hugged me. I couldn't smile back I was too confused. My mother's smile faded while Jasper stepped back and looked at me with a confused face. He then smiled again and pointed behind me. I turned slowly and saw Kai. My eyes started to tear up and I ran over to him. He welcomed me with open arms as I was hoping to fall into his arms, I fell through him and onto the ground. He turned and looked down at me with a frown and I could hear him sigh as I turned around with watery eyes. Standing up my family and loved one started to fade.
          "I love you." Kai spoke.
My heart couldn't take it anymore as I ran to him again but he faded too quickly and only memory orbs were left over. I screamed in anguish as if it felt like someone was tearing me from inside out. My tears flooded my face as I fell to my knees crying. I looked up into the darkness and screamed.
"Why are you doing this to me!?" I asked waiting for and answer. That answer never came.
