Orange was the first to make a move. He slammed his fists into the ground, and created a wave of energy. Red easily jumped over it.
Just what I expected. Orange thought while smiling.
Orange threw his hands up, and a large beam of Stone energy fired up at Red from the ground. She yelped in surprise, and was knocked over in mid air. She bounced off her back, and flipped onto her feet.
"What, don't tell me you weren't expecting that!" Orange laughed.
"You just caught me off guard, that's all." Red smirked.
Red ran at Orange and jumped up. Orange tried the Stone beam once more, but Red absorbed it with her jewel, then landed on Orange's head with her right foot. She kicked off to do a backflip, making him stumble. When she landed on her feet, she lunged forward and shoulder bumped him. Since he was already off balance, the next impact was enough to topple him. He rolled back, jumped up, and smashed both fists into the ground, but soon after flung them up. What resulted was a large wall of Stone energy. Red was barely able to dodge in time, and she almost lost her footing. Orange did a consecutive series of somersaults at Red. She jumped over, and bombarded him with bursts of Fire. But, Orange was able to resist, and he stood up, then charged at Red. She grabbed onto him, and stopped his velocity almost immediately. She then turned around, still holding onto him, and executed a hip-throw, which shot him into the air.
"Rockfall!!" Orange called out, shifting to face Red.
He thrust his arms down, and a barrage of large energy orbs fell upon the stone platform, each one causing a ground-shaking explosion. Red dodged most of them, but was grounded by the rest. Orange caught himself by his hands on the edge of the platform, then heaved himself up. Red noticed, and shot a stream of Fire at him. He dodged, and shot a beam of Stone energy at her. She absorbed it in her jewel, then started running around the perimeter of the platform. Orange did the same, so they were both running in circles, always on the opposite side of the other. Red suddenly made a straight dash, Orange mimicking this action as well. Orange tackled Red, as his force was much more powerful, but she grabbed his back, did a backwards somersault, then propelled him into the air with both feet. She sprang up, and turned to him.
"It's over!" Red clenched her left fist, the power from the jewel all transferring into her hand.
She flung the hand forward, releasing all the energy that she had gathered. The impact boosted Orange further away from the platform, and he went hurtling towards the ground.
"Now for the finale!!" Red clenched both fists, and fire swirlled around them both.
She ran at the edge, jumped over, then spun around quickly. She was covered in Fire, and streamed down towards Orange. He landed on the ground, and soon after Red slammed into him, all the Fire energy exploding. Once the flames cleared, she stood up. Orange struggled to sit up.
"Man!" Orange growled. "Beaten again..."
"You know what I'm after, Vincent." Red smiled.
"Damn it, how do you do it?"
"Luckily, it fell out of your pocket, and wasn't crushed in that bomb attack." She swiped a star shaped topaz jewel off the ground. "Why are the Captains collecting these Gems?"
"I don't know. And even if I did know, I wouldn't tell you."
Red stuck her tongue out at him.
"Well, I suppose I'll just have to find out myself, then." She smiled.
"Always gettin' in the way, puttin' yourself in more danger than necessary." He stood up slowly.
"Don't tell me you're worried about me." She raised an eyebrow.
"Well, how am I supposed to practice if you end up dying?" He shrugged. "Those Ghosts break too easily, and the other Captains are never interested."
"Fine." Red smirked. "I'll be careful, if only to stay alive for the purposes of being a training dummy."
Orange gave her a strange smile.
Not really what I meant, Terra. He thought. But it works for now.
"Cat got your tongue?" Red asked.
"Bah!" Orange frowned miserably. "You're always getting me in trouble, you know that? I'm outta here."
He turned to stone, and sunk into the ground.
"That was weird." Red said as she pocketted the Gem. "No matter. Might as well tell Charlotte what I found."
She pressed her fingers behind her ear.
Hello? Yellow's voice said.
"Yeah, I just defeated Captain Orange, and retrieved his Gem."
That was fast. Yellow seemed amazed.
"It would have been quicker, but a few complications slowed me down. What'd you find out about the Gems?"
All I could get was that they hold a legendary power, and that there are four of them.
"Well, that helps a lot." Red scowled.
Hold on. I'm getting something else.
There was a long pause.
This... is not good. Yellow became quiet.
"What, Charlotte?"
I assume that the Guardians are powerful Cyberhumans who kept the peace on Iota long ago.
"You're right. I heard a little about them. So?"
A certain 'Guardian of Destruction' was sealed away in the jewels. The sources don't say why, but if The Empire gets all of them, they could unleash this power!
"That... isn't good." Red blinked. "Damn it! Now I really wish Miyamoto were here!"
There's really nothing we can do about that, right now. Yellow sighed. Come back to the house and get some rest.
"All right, fine." She frowned. "I'll be back in a second. Terra, out."
Red disappeared in a flash of flames.
Meanwhile, at the house, Yellow was talking to Blue on the couch. There was a laptop on the table beside the couch.
"I had no idea that an Ice user could also be skilled with Water." Yellow smiled. "I know they are both parts of Aqua, but still."
"If you work hard enough at the same Element, you will eventually master it, and that knowledge won't distract you from learning other Elements."
Red opened up the door, and walked in.
"Oh, you look like a mess." Yellow stared. "Are you okay?"
"Ah, this is nothing." She laughed. "I've come out of worse scrapes than this. I've got the Gem."
Red tossed the Gem at Yellow. Yellow caught it.
"Whoa!" Yellow gripped the Gem tightly. "What's happening?"
Her hand was glowing, and she couldn't seem to let go of the Gem. Her hand released it, but it floated, and was bound to her hand by small bolts of static.
"It's... reacting to your power." Blue stared.
"I feel strange." Yellow frowned. "And now my head hurts."
"Got the news on the way in." Red told Yellow.
"Don't you care at all?" Blue asked Red, astonished.
"Oh, yeah. I do care." Red responded without looking at him. "But it's nothing to be concerned about. So, anyway..."
"Nothing to be concerned about? I didn't think you were that apathetic!"
"You are so naive, Yamato. Just wait and see." Red shook her head, slightly annoyed. "So, Charlotte, you want the news?"
Blue grumbled, and Red passed Yellow the news.
"Perfect!" Yellow looked at the news. "It seems Captain Pink has been spotted near Aqualiss, today, many times."
"Charlotte, what are you thinking?" Red seemed worried.
"I'm thinking a little vengence is in order." Yellow stood up, and set the Gem on the desk. "Nobody kidnaps my brother and gets away with it!"
Yellow ran out the door hastily, with Blue and Red looking after her. Neither of them noticed the Gem had converted into quartz...
"Hopefully she doesn't get hurt out there." Blue sighed.
There was a long pause.
"So, Yamato..." Red asked nervously. "Do you like checkers?"
Meanwhile, at The Empire's tower, Eddie was knocking at Daisaku's door.
"Who is it?" Daisaku asked.
"Lieutenant Eddie, sir!" Eddie answered.
"Come on in."
Eddie opened the door, to see Daisaku making a house of cards. It was already ten levels high.
"Amazing, sir." Eddie blinked.
"What?" Daisaku looked confused.
"The cards, sir."
"Oh, it's just an idle hobby." Daisaku sweeped the cards over. "So, what do you need?"
"While Captain Pink searches for the Sapphire Diamond Gem, I have been doing some more research on the Gems."
"And, what have you found?"
"A garbled mess of Archon Basic." Eddie smirked. "But, I did manage to translate a chunk that you're sure to find satisfactory."
"So, out with it already!"
"Each Gem contains a strong Elemental power. The Ruby Orb, Sapphire Diamond, Topaz Star, and Emerald Triangle all contained a considerable amount of Elemental power; Fire, Water, Electric, and Forest, respectively. But, the four together were just enough to seal away the Guardian of Destruction."
"And this is supposed to satisfy me?" Daisaku narrowed his brows.
"Well, it continues to explain when anyone with one of those Elements comes in contact with a Gem with the same Element, said person will absorb all of the Elemental power. They will become a master of their Element, and their overall power will boost!"
"Which would explain why Miyamoto reacted so strangely when he came in contact with the Emerald Triangle." Daisaku smiled. "I guess that saves us a lot of training."
"There is more. The seal will also be weakened as each jewel loses it's power. The Guardian of Defense did this intentionally, so it would be that much harder to awaken the Guardian of Destruction."
"And that would explain why it turned to quartz immediately after." Daisaku grumbled. "So, is there more?"
"That's it for now. I've got more translating to do, so if you're done with me..."
"Yes, but one question."
"Yeah, sir?"
"How is it that you can translate that text?"
"I honestly have no idea." He laughed nervously. "I guess I just have a knack for it."
"All the same, I appreciate your efforts. You are dismissed."
"Thank you, sir."
Eddie opened the door, but accidentally thwapped someone.
"Ack!" Eddie cringed. "Sorry!"
"You flippin' idiot!" Orange growled, and bumped past him.
Eddie scuttled away.
"Captain, explain your lack of manners." Daisaku frowned.
"I've got horrid news, sir."
"You know how much I hate horrid news, Orange." His eyebrows narrowed again.
"You hate it a lot less than finding it out yourself."
"You've got me there. But out with it."
"As soon as I located the Topaz Star, I lost it to Terra Red."
"Terra Red, huh? She's been a nuisance to first Yamato Blue, and now to you. What is up with that girl?"
"But... the Gem, sir."
"Oh, yeah. Don't despair. It's not as bad as you think. We'll let them have the Gems, but I'll just retrieve the Ruby Orb from Black."
"May I ask why?"
"We need their powers to unlock the seal." Daisaku smiled. "Your bumbling actually proved advantegeous."
"How are we going to exploit the powers if the Gems are in their posession?"
"Don't worry, Captain." Daisaku's smile grew more confident. "You just stick to your duties, and I'll handle the big stuff, okay?"
"Very well, sir." Orange nodded slowly.
"You are dismissed. I need to pay a visit to Captain Black."
"Sir." Orange nodded, then left the room.
Daisaku stood.
Now, hopefully I can find Black in time before he inevitably loses his Gem. Yamato will most likely go after him, because of his little grudge.
Daisaku opened up the window, and flew out, in search of Black.
