The five Ghosts jumped at them simutaneously, with the intent of attacking. But Green had other plans.
"Combined Attack; Pressure!!" He called out.
The four of them release a wave of Force, Speed, and Wind energy, pushing the Ghosts on their backs.
"That wasn't fair!" The lead Ghost said.
"Yeah? Well, neither was ganging up on us like that!" Red yelled.
The lead Ghost pulled out a long blue whip.
"Hey." Blue stared. "I know you. You were the only one in The Empire to use a whip. You were under my command!"
"That's right." He answered. "But, I don't follow your orders any more. As you can see, I work for Black, now."
"Then, you die first." Blue narrowed his gaze.
The Ghost tried to lash Blue, but Blue shifted his arm so that it would hit the bracer. It still stung, but not as much as it would have. The whip wrapped around his arm, but Blue grabbed it. He deliberately allowed the Ghost to pull him; the momentum was just enough to allow Blue to thrust his spear through the Ghost.
"Argh..." The Ghost dropped the whip. "I see... that I was merely a pawn. Damn..."
Blue removed the spear, and the Ghost fell.
"He's powerful..." One Ghost said.
"I was a Captain, you idiots." He hit the ground with the tip of his spear. "Don't think for one second I became weak the moment I left The Empire."
"With that in mind..." Red smiled. "Do you punks still want to mess with us?"
The Ghosts looked at each other.
"Well... it's either die here." A Ghost said.
"Or, get yelled at by Black." Another offered.
"I choose the latter!" A different Ghost yelled.
"Hold it!" Yellow released a powerful charge in the air.
"Agh!" Blue flinched. "Watch where you're aiming..."
"Sorry about that." She chuckled nervously, then looked at the Ghosts again. "We can't allow you to leave."
The Ghosts had been stunned by the Electricity, and couldn't move.
"Why not?" Red asked.
"Think about it. If they work for this James Black guy, then wouldn't they report back to him?"
"Well, that would just lead him here." Blue said. "And that's exactly what I want."
"But it would also invite the wrath of the other Captains, and maybe even Daisaku himself! You and Terra might be able to handle them, but Miyamoto and I are way too weak right now."
"She's got a point." Red sighed.
"Charlotte." Green said. "If we kill them, then won't James be suspicious anyway?"
"Yeah." Blue nodded. "Whenever a unit dies, their coordinates are sent straight to the Captain who owned it. Which means that even as we speak, James is tracking the coordinates of the Ghost I killed."
"How right you are, Yamato." A quiet voice spoke.
Everyone turned in the direction of the voice. A man was standing there. He looked about twenty two. He had black hair, so dark that not even the light reflected off it. He wore black shades, a black jacket that went down to his knees, black pants, and black boots.
"James." Blue narrowed his eyes.
"I can see the hatred in your eyes." The man smiled. "Even after such a long time, you still bear the same freezing stare that struck fear in the hearts of millions. No matter how different our beliefs are, we are still the same."
"I will never be like you."
"Oh, get over yourself. If you really think about it, the bigger picture, nothing really changed when Sky was eliminated. Daisaku still runs his plans, and the Captains still work together efficiently. The only thing that really changed, an insignificant change at that, was the loss of two skilled Captains."
"I won't ever forgive you for what you've done."
"What I've done? But Yamato, I wasn't the one who was selling Empire secrets to the Police Force." Black grinned.
"You know that's a damned lie." Blue growled. "Every little bit of it!"
"So, how about you do something about it? Or do you still fear my unpredictable power?"
"I never have feared you..." Blue ran at Black. "And I never will!"
"Foolish boy."
Black pushed aside Blue's spear when he tried to attack, took one simple sidestep, and gave him a devastating kick. Blue was sent rolling back, but he sprang to his feet.
"I have been a Captain longer than you have." Black stepped closer to him. "And I most likely have been alive longer than you have."
"Hang on, Yamato!" Yellow said.
"N-no." Blue said weakly. "This is my battle!"
"Come now, don't fool yourself." Black chuckled. "You need all the help you can get."
"You will fall here." Blue put a fist to his own chest, and it glew with Water energy. "Fountain!"
He shot out a deluge of Water energy, knocking Black back.
"That was one of Clair's attacks." Black laughed. "Do you think that you will get revenge by using her techniques against me?"
"A fitting end for a b*****d like you." Blue was charging up both hands. "To be destroyed by the powers of the one you had killed!"
"I see there's no reasoning with you. Might as well just kill you now." He looked to the Ghosts, who were still stunned. "How would you like to be a part of something greater?"
The Ghosts cheered.
"Then fuel my deadly power!" He raised an arm. "Things much be sacrificed, if one wants to find the greater good! Genocide!!"
The Ghosts were all ripped apart by a torrent of Dark and Murk energy, and their particles were absorbed into the energy. The energy flowed into Black, and he gained a blood red aura. He suddenly disappeared, then reappeared in front of Blue; surprising him. Black gave Blue a critical palm attack, straight in the chest. All the power Black had accumulated exploded, and sent Blue flying back. When Blue stopped, he struggled to sit up.
"Still alive?" Black was surprised. "I'm impressed. But you won't survive my next attack."
"Hold it." Red said quietly.
Black looked at Red, who was holding the jewel bracelet with both hands. Her hands were spread out, so the bracelet was hanging from the middle and ring fingers of each hand. The gem was glowing brightly, and unknown to everyone, she had been charging it up the entire time.
"And just what are you going to do, girl?" Black sneered.
"You kill him, and it'll be the last thing you ever do." Red was clearly angry.
"Stay... out of this." Blue struggled up.
Red ignored Blue's command, and continued staring at Black.
"I think you're bluffing." Black smiled. "You honestly think a tiny girl like you could defeat a powerful Captain like me? Try me."
"Feel the fires of my wrath, then." Her eyes glew, and the jewel floated upward. "Pyroclasm!!"
An intense heat flowed through the area, then a large explosion of pure Fire energy erupted from where Black was standing. Green, Blue, and Yellow could only stare in awe. Red stopped glowing, and the bracelet slapped onto her left wrist again. When the flames dispersed, Black was lying on the ground. He got up slowly, and coughed.
"Who knew that one person could hold so much... power?" Black said weakly. "I underestimated you, girl. I won't make the same... mistake again."
Black turned into a complete shadow, then sunk into the ground and disappeared. Blue slinked over.
"I... didn't need your help, Terra." He growled weakly.
"Oh, so would you rather have died?" Red was offended.
Blue didn't answer. Red bowed her head.
"Fine. See if I ever help you again." She turned, and ran off.
"Terra..." Yellow frowned.
There was a moment of silence.
"I'm going after her." Yellow told them, then glared at Blue. "Yamato, you can be very infuriating sometimes!"
Yellow ran off after Red, and there was another pause.
"What are you waiting for?" Blue looked at Green. "Are you going to chew me out too?"
"No. We should get some rest." Green started heading into the house, then stopped. "Yamato."
"What?"
"We may have different motives for fighting, but it wouldn't kill you to accept some cooperation where it's needed."
"Right..." Blue sighed.
The two of them walked into the house, and sat on the couch.
"So, why don't you like her?" Green asked. "She seems nice enough."
"I know she is." Blue replied. "That's why I don't like her."
Green gave him a confused look.
"Okay." Blue continued. "I pretend not to like her. It's just more of my attachment issues."
"But if you're so distant from us, how can you expect us not to get aggrivated sometimes?"
"I don't. I just... don't want something bad to happen."
"But if something bad were to happen, it's still going to happen, whether you're attached to us or not. Take what happened today for example. Even if you had been the kindest person in the world to us, Black still would have come and attacked us. Terra would probably still be here, but that's beside the point."
"You don't get it. I'll base this off of a tree, I suppose. Say I'm at the bottom of a tree, and you guys are at the top. If I want to get closer, I have to climb the tree. Now, if something is to happen to the tree, then that makes the fall much harder than if I seperated myself from you."
"Now I get it." Green nodded. "If you're so set on your own goals, maybe being in a group isn't the right thing to do. We want to help you out, Yamato, but if you keep pushing us away, we're not going to want to do it any more."
"But..."
"That's the way things are. Make a decision."
Green got up, and walked to his room. Blue thought about what Green had said for a few hours, trying to decide what his next action would be.
