((A/N: Alright. Here's chapter two...Ummm. This chapter is kinnda a flashback dream thingy, just in case its confusing... sweatdrop So this is about a month BEFORE the first Chappie. :]))
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It started out like any other normal day for everyone at HQ. Hailey'd woken up to the sound of knocking on her door to her small dorm. She yawned and pulled the covers off and untangled her feet from them as she let them fall from the bed to the floor. Stumbling over some piles that lay on the floor of random things, she finally found Olivia on the other side of the door, grinning.
"Well good morning." Hailey laughed as Olivia grinned. "Yo!" She greeted, raising a hand in a swift friendly greeting. For once she was up first, usually Hailey was up before her, but once in a while the tables turned. She smiled at Olivia as she shut her door and came out, trying to straighten her hair the best she could without it being brushed.
"Colonel wants us to swing by." Olivia said, eagerness in her voice as she spoke, closing her own door to her room after she had herded Shima in. "It's about time." She continued as she walked along side Hailey down the hall. "We ain't had a mission or anything for like, almost two weeks!" She huffed.
Before going down to Roy's office, the two decided to stop by the mess hall and pick up some breakfast. It wasn't busy, only a couple dozen men sat spread out in small groups at tables, talking and eating.
After they'd gone though the line quickly, they both carried a plate with some breakfast. A bagel was on Hailey's plate, and on Olivia's sat her favorite: Pancakes covered in syrup, her sweet tooth was obviously showing that morning. She glanced around the room, looking for anywhere particular she wanted to sit. They could sit anywhere they wanted really, but she was looking to see if anyone they knew was around.
As the looked around, a loud groan rang out from one of the tables where quite a few men sat, followed by laughter. Both the girls looked over at the commotion to see Hughes pulling out pictures like a mad man and showing each one to one un-lucky man. Each new picture Hughes pulled out, he cooed about it and talked about each one lovingly. They were of course of his daughter, Elisia.
The girls laughed a little amongst themselves. Hughes finished up as more laughed rang out but as he stood he saw the girls standing and he waved to them, excusing himself from the table of men, walking twords the girls, grinning.
They both sat down at the empty table near where they had been standing and Hughes sat down across from them. "Well hey there!" He smiled across the table. "I ain't seen you girls in a while, well...outside the hospital that is!" He laughed. He had a point, they hadn't seen him much within' a few months, exempt from when he heard they were back from a mission and in the hospital, than he would go visit them.
"You know how things go." Olivia shrugged, mouth full of pancake. "Headed to Roy's office again?" He asked as he handed Olivia a napkin to clean the syrup she had slopped all over the table and herself. "Yup." She and Hailey both nodded as Hughes laughed a little. "He sure does keep you girls busy.."
If they could, the two would have sat there with Hughes all day. He was always so friendly and happy, and he loved just sitting around having a calm conversation, listening to what they had to say. Something he probably developed from being a loving father and husband. He'd always been like a dad to the girls, their own guardian. He talked about Elisia some, how she was growing and all the cute little things she did. Most people always got annoyed with his obsessive stories, but the girls didn't mind. They were always attentive listeners to his stories.
He talked a while longer and then looked at his watch and sighed. "I hate to say it, but I got paperwork waiting for me." He said as she stood. "S'alright. We should probably get to the colonel's office too." Olivia smiled as he smiled back. They walked from the room in a group. Hughes waved and watched the two girls walk down the opposite hall than he was headed down.He smiled and watched them go.
If he hadn't known better from the way those two got along and were always together, he would have sworn they were sisters.
But they were sisters in a way. Not by blood, but by a different, invisible, and much stronger bond...
((Ehhh.... sweatdrop sweatdrop There's chapter two...))
