Clairvoyant Nightmares
Crying…
A sickening crack…
And then nothing. The child had been silenced. There were voices that were barely audible.
“Shhh! Shut up!” came a second voice.
The two shadowy figures moved silently through the house, peering into each room as they went past. They seemed to find the one that they were looking for. They stepped inside, cautiously. The inhabitant of the room seemed to be asleep. The two figures, silhouetted against the wall, moved in slowly, with what appeared to be in knife in each of their hands. Suddenly, they struck, blood splattering against the wall.
Miles away, a girl named Celeste woke with a start, with cold sweat pouring down her back. Celeste panted and shook her head. She closed her eyes tight, trying to shut out the image of her best friend, Karl, being killed. It was just a dream, she told herself over and over again. Unable to stop herself, tears escaped her eyes. She looked at her alarm clock and saw that it was about 4:30 in the morning. She couldn’t get back to sleep, so she rubbed her eyes gently and got up to start getting ready for school.
Celeste walked out of her room, just as the clock struck five. She poured some cereal in a bowl, added some milk and turned on the t.v. to check out the weather forecast for the day. There was a breaking news segment going.
“We are standing here outside the house of Karl Jacobs and his family.” Said the reporter.
Celeste went from being inattentive to being fully alert.
“No!” she said in almost a whisper. She edged closer to the television.
The reporter spoke again, “Karl and his baby brother James were found dead about 20 minutes ago. The police had been called due to a neighbor hearing a disturbance hearing a noise sounding as if someone had broken into the Jacobs’ house. When the police arrived, Karl and James’ parents were still asleep in their beds, unaware of the fact that their two sons were dead.”
Celeste shook her head again. It’s just a dream. Just a dream, I’m still asleep, because this can’t be happening. She pinched herself. She was still very much awake, and the truth started to sink in. Karl was dead.
