Personal Details
Personality: Nick is friendly toward new acquaintances, though it is nearly impossible to fully earn his trust. A swift and smooth talker with a gentle smile, he can start up a conversation in any kind of atmosphere. His broad range of interest puts him at home in almost any company, due in part to his love of and career revolving around books of every category. His eyes are always warm, though sometimes burning hot.
Interests: Books, history, philosophy, culture, language, physics, semantics, theology, theocracy, society, chemistry, books, etc etc. Nick also has a varied pallet and enjoys a wide variety of food, as well as experimenting with his own cooking with every kind of spice and meat and vegetable he comes across.
Desires: Nick fantasizes about collecting every piece of literature ever composed and compiling it all in an independent library to be a sort of mecca for intellectuals. He pursues this dream by working to copy and categorize every book that crosses his hands in his line of work. Standing equal to his love of books is his little sister, who he swore to himself to look after when their parents disappeared.
Dislikes: Nick hates bullies, always has and always will. He has an open mind and nothing sets him off other than one person intentionally abusing the property or person of someone else. He also doesn't much care for overly sweet or sour things, or careless preparation. He believes any bad situation can be avoided by proper preparation.
Fears: Nick is afraid of two things - Uncertainty, and Pain. True pain, mind you. He's afraid of losing his sister. He's also afraid of being in a situation where he doesn't know and can't figure out what to do. His last, and probably biggest fear, is to exist in this or any other world completely and totally alone.
Secrets: Nick keeps his middle name secret, as well as key aspects of his past. Nick has had a number of fights he's never told anyone but his sister about, and there is one he never told anyone about - an after school conflict gone horribly horribly wrong that ended with the other student dead at his feet. It still haunts him, and is part of the reason he swore so strongly to keep his little sister safe.
Possessions: Nick is oft seen in the company of a satchel hung from his shoulder. Always on but rarely seen is the cross-shaped trinket hanging from his neck. Rarely held but always sharp is his family sword, a blade forged from the broken pieces of a shrine maiden's naginata ages ago. He has several notebooks and his innocent-enough satchel always has at least one of them in it; as well as writing utensils, some small electronics (calculator, PDA, etc - not always valid in RP), some reference books and even the occassional scroll. Nick keeps a few reams worth of paper on him as well, just in case.
Public Information
Philosophy: Nick is a student of the world. He never stops looking for lessons that need learning. He'll never claim to know everything about anything, but he does jokingly claim to know at least something about more-or-less everything. One of the basic tenets of his faith is to accept within oneself the truth that an individual can know relatively nothing in the grand scheme of things, but society as a whole shall eventually learn everything.
Style: Nicholas T. Books is his formal. When he introduces himself like that is when he needs to be his adult self, and present the straight-and-narrow to the present company. Switching between 'Nick' and 'Nicholas' is as easy for him as flipping a toggle, and the stark difference between the business-like Nicholas and the playful yet still straightforward Nick is noticeable just from the way he stands.
Moves Nick agrees wholeheartedly with everything that Jeet Kune Do represents, and the lifestyle that was put forth by it's creator. Having studied martial arts from a young age Nick has a variety of techniques available to him, and the seamless flow of water is his medium for their delivery. Combat is always a last resort, but Nicholas firmly believes that to keep the peace one must be prepared for war.
Magic: (Only in RPs where applicable) Nick always thought there was some reality to magic as a kid, and in his time serving with the family shrine he found out just what truth there was. He discovered an aptitude for an ancient form of magic involving the manipulation of paper. First through alchemic ink, and then through spells and incantations, and then simply by force of will he could shape paper to his own designs.
