Las night, my family got back from just under a week of living in a comfy little cabin next to a lake in Middle of Nowhere, Wisconsin. The weather was mostly fabulous, the water was warm, the swimming was great. There were almost no other people around, so it was us and the fishies.
I found my first live clam and wanted to cook and eat it because I've never tried clam before. My mother, an established clam eater, got upset when I mentioned it and we let it go back into the lake after keeping it in a bucket of water for two days. ...Apparently it's only acceptable to eat if it's already dead and comes from a store. whee
The isolation was kind of a double-edged deal, nice and quiet with lots of beach room, but so very boring after a while.. I definitely can't imagine spending more than a week there unless you brought something to do with you.
Next time, I'm eating that clam.
