The stagnant breeze of air so thick it burns
Velvet flows and turns
The kind of air from deep within the earth
Thawed the tree limbs
Gnawed the trunks
All hint of winter’s sins
Are long debunked
A rumor whispered into bloom
Though placid darkness looms
Lit are the tombs of
Sleep
A porcelain guise
Hibernate until you die
And lovers wait
Wait for the day their hearts will beat as one
Like sheep they’ll bleat
And shun, in their warm cocoons,
The rise and fall of sun
From dusk till dawn
The bitter crisp brown lawn
Of suburban getaways
Orchids, peonies, all made
Beautiful by lemonade,
And synthetic peace of mind-
The mark of happy lies
A perfect day soon followed by the dry,
The crusted face of all who lie
Beneath and in the dust
Ash to ash
Rust to rust
