Music is Magic
In my opinion, there is nothing in the world greater than the ethereal sound of music. There is nothing like flying through the sky on the wings of sound and rhythm. Just as there is nothing to compare to the weightless and carefree feeling that music can instill in us, because no matter whom you are, or where you are in life, music is something everyone can enjoy.
Music is like a witch’s spell. It throws a haze over us that can evoke emotion and send us catapulting into a different state of mind. Often it is used to cheer us up when we feel lonesome and forlorn. Music is our guide when we have gone astray. It is our lighthouse, and we the boat at sea.
Some people use music to lull themselves to sleep after a brutal day’s work. The sweet lullabies that are so nostalgic of our infant years, when our mothers used to hum to us before bed, are just as sweet and calming now. Our bodies and minds grow and age with time, but music is an ever-lasting thing that cannot be blown away by even the fiercest storm.
Few people realize how great of an effect music has on us, but really, the influences are great and many. Not only does it evoke emotion, and calm us when we need to be calmed, but it also helps us learn and grow. Pregnant women often play music for their unborn fetuses because it is believed that music will help the children in later years. Older students, myself included, use music to help propel us as we work, giving us a constant, comforting rhythm.
When I am feeling reminiscent, I often turn on the music I listened to as a child. Even now when I am more grown up, I still find comfort and reassurance in that wondrous melody. Sometimes, when I listen to certain songs and artists, I feel as if I’ve been transported back in time to the days when I heard those songs the most.
Like most people, when I listen to my favorite songs I am on cloud nine, ecstatic and lost in my own being. My favorite songs are the songs that induce my own personal potion of delight. I am barred from unpleasantness when I am listening to these tunes. It is impossible for me to feel any sort of emotion except contentment and peace.
For these reason, and a thousand and one others, music is my magic. It is my safety blanket, and my anchor to sanity. It is one of my two ways of expression, music and writing. Two that go hand in hand as nothing else can. Perhaps music too, is your magic, perhaps it is something else. Regardless, music plays an indefinable role in all of our lives.

Description:
This was an English assignment, and I have to say I'm incredibly proud of the outcome. I'm actually amazed at some of the great stuff I've created because of that class. Not all of it was fantastic though...I can remember a few absolute failures, but then, any pursuit has its bad days, ne?
Anywho, about this, it's just a little random writing about one of my two favorite things, okay, three. Music, writing and reading. - Date: 03/28/2009
