One A.M. One in the morning. A time between night and morning. A twilight that exists in the corner of your mind, hidden places where light does not ever shine.
When all you can do, is contemplate on your many sins. The sorrows that you carry on your bag, a burden that weighs down on you. It increases with every step you take, until, you break, falling to the ground, with no one to help you, no comfort from anyone.
It hurts when you need me
And I can’t break your fall
It hurts when you can’t see
And it hurts
Your mind wanders, tormenting you with what could have been, what you could have done, what you could have done differently. When your mind wanders, that is a terrible thing. There is always the chance that it might not come back.
When you're sad, memories tear at your heart, light and dark, pulling at you, ripping you in half. Your heart is broken and there's no one to fix it. You regret everything in your life, your sorrow washes over you like a vengeful river, washing away all emotions, devoid of everything except the pain.
All the words that died within you, unsaid, unheard by mortal ears, they all come rushing back at you in a flood. A torrent of memories, memories you wished to forget, the hurt is almost physical. A blow against you, someone knocking you down over and over again.
Your pain coalesces into a vengeful spirit of hate and anger. In the silence, it whispers songs of agony and despair into your being until the you long for silence, the quiet bliss that silence provides.
Desperately, you try to recall happier times, times when the world was as it should be, when laughter and bliss rang like a clear, bubbling, spring, one of those rare, happier times.
But the taint spreads to even such happy memories, corrupting and twisting them into mockeries of themselves. The spirit whispers in ear, how you have wasted time on trivial things, how you're a failure, you're destined to never achieve anything, you're a loser who'll never go anywhere in life. It tells you that no matter how hard you search, you're doomed to wander through life alone and bereft of companionship.
And it hurts when you’re lonely
And I’m standing right beside you there
And it hurt when you told me
That you'll try this on your own
You pray for, no, you beg for sleep on bended knees to some higher power but, no blessed release comes. No matter how much it hurts, you suffer through every minute of this exquisite, unique, torture, staring wide awake. You are screaming inside, but nothing comes out. As you lie awake, no one can hear you. Crying.
