Who stabbed him? I don’t know, none of us do. We stared at his lifeless body on the grass, not paying any attention to the murderer who was likely gone. Chee leaped off my shoulders and cautiously examined Boa. He sniffed the deep wound then tried to lick the blood off. Mini, the toy robot, inched toward Boa and hugged his head. It was the first time I saw it move but I didn’t care, not now, not when my friend has died. A tear ran down my cheek, but I didn’t move a muscle, didn’t even make a sound. I switched glances at everyone; they were all silent and shocked. Each one of them was biting their bottom lip, trembling.
Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse.
Flocks of birds cried as they flew away from the trees. Screams, high pitched screams were coming in the direction of the village. I glanced behind me and just far off, in the very corner of a tree, I saw flames. That’s when fear stuck my heart. The village was on fire. I was the only one that noticed, the others were so despaired that they seemed to not be able to hear a thing. And at once, at the very same time, they burst into tears, wailing. I did the same thing, it was as if my emotions just now realized what had happened. Boa’s gone, my friend that was always there for me, made me laugh, told me stories, gone.
“The village…gotta take him to the village…his mother…help…” Roger wept as he lifted Boa up, carrying him on his back.
“The village…it’s…” I gulped. “It’s on fire!” I wiped the endless tears on my cheek.
“Who would…no…” Jen muttered. “Why?!”
We ran to the village, slowing down time to time for Roger. The closer we got, the hotter the air was. Screams of frightened villagers haunted us. I can hear the crackle of the flames as it engulfs the trees and building. This is horrible…absolutely horrible. Once we reached the village, everything was red. Peoples were on fire, running, crying in agony. Some were on the floor, limbs all chopped off. The ground was bloody and it reeked of rotten flesh. We tried to ignore everyone as they passed by, screaming at the tops of their lungs. The symbol on my arm slowly started beating, but I paid no attention to it as we progressed deeper into the village.
“W-where are we?!” Trek stuttered. The fire made the buildings unrecognizable.
“My baby…my baby!” A woman drenched in blood staggered towards us holding a child with its head chopped clean off. “Please…my baby!” she howled. “Demons!” she held the baby right in front of my face, showing me its fleshy insides. “Demons!”
The symbol enflamed. I lost my balance and fell down, clutching my arm, screaming.
“Anysa!” Roger handed Boa to Jen and knelt down to me, “Anysa!”
“My…head…it…” I leaned forward and pounded my head on the ground.
“Stop it!” Roger pleaded.
“Hurts…” It felt like someone was stabbing a razor sharp knife into my head and out over and over. That’s not all, my eyes started to burn, just as hot—no, hotter than the flames by a thousand fold. Acid, I was certain there was acid in my eyes burning, melting them away so that there would be nothing left but two hallow circles. Roger held me tight, mostly covering my head.
“I saw that” The woman said, she didn’t leave yet. “I saw that. She…she…has…”
“Horns” Kert said. “And white…white hair…”
“It’s the demon child!” she hissed, backing away, “Its your fault, its all your fault! This…its all your doing! They told us you were dead…that rats ate all your flesh and bones…they lied…your still alive…I’ll tell them, I’ll tell everyone!” she ran away, laughing madly, still carrying the headless baby. The others paid no attention the insane woman.
“Roger…she’s…” Trek muttered.
“You never told…you knew she was…” Jen backed away. “Yet you still—“
“Yah, I knew who she was!” Roger boomed. “So what? She’s not a bad person. People judged her, said she was evil right when she was just born! You can’t really believe that, can you?”
I cried in Rogers arms, the pain subsided. Boa died and Kert, Jen, and Trek figured out who I am, now they’re afraid. I knew this was going to happen four years ago but since I went this long without them noticing, I figured nothing bad would happen. They probably hate me now, because I’m a demon.
“Roger!” Kert shouted. “Behind you!”
Me and Roger looked up and saw a black horse with a crimson mane and glowing white eyes, but the most frightening was the rider, a knight dressed in midnight black armor with a helmet that covered his face. Red lights seeped from small cracks and openings in his suit. He carried a long, thick sword in his right hand. Something about his presence made me feel like death was inviting me to its home.
“You’re not going to escape again” His voice sounded hoarse, it was frightening. He raised his sword high over his head then striked at Roger.
Something strange happened. About one feet away from Rogers skull, there was a purple discharge and his sword flung away with great force. He could’ve lost it but he held a firm grip. I gaped; it was as if there was a barrier around us.
“You…” he growled. “The traitor” his horse grunted then opened its mouth wide and let out a long, ear bleeding scream. Its screeches were so loud, it rattled my eardrums. I held my head; I couldn’t even hear my own screaming, just faint static. Roger let go of me and held his head too. Right when that happened, the horse closed its mouth and then the dark knight lifted me up onto his horse and we galloped away.
“Anysa!” Roger screamed loud and long, his voice getting faint as I got carried out further and further.
