HISTORY Vahn's abilities and relationships have changed slightly over time. The author has used the process of retroactive continuity, or retcon, to adjust to changes in popular culture, eliminate restrictive segments of the mythos, and permit contemporary storylines. These changes, while significant, permit the retention of the core elements that make Vahn an iconic character.
BOOK 1 The legacy of the Father, rushing forward the fate of the Sons Then Vahn started to feel attracted towards Ashe, a kind and beautiful woman who he kidnapped from Zelandria at Victor's request. Victor, who only saw the amazing powers Ashe had as another tool to achieve his dream, regarded her as just that at first, completely alienating the Princess.
Soon afterwards however, the rogue Sinners began being hunted down, member after member being brutally murdered. Both Vahn and Victor discover the cause to be the work of Draeger's labours in dark sorcery: a twisted facsimile of the terrestrial avatar Efreet.
In the fires of Allen Fah's black sorcery it was born, or rather, forged, this new Efreet made to house the consciousness of the deceased Efreet of 70 millennia ago. The original Efreet had been found, injured mortally from a battle long since passed. However, Draeger took hold of the dead beast, and resurrected it sculpting his new pet, and infusing it with rivers of flame charging it with negative energy of some of the most loathsome and hideous acts any being can perform. True to its nature, shortly after reaching complete sentience, the corrupted Efreet was rumored to be too much for Draeger and thus, escaped to wreak its own havoc.
This Efreet was considered the real deal by many, yet it was later revealed to the brothers to be the presumed dead Draeger Fah. He had fused his remains and essence with the avatar's corrupted body, destroyed Nybelmar and consequently began marshaling forces within Sorrow's Keep. In one such engagement, Victor was presumed killed by a servant of Draeger's.
When Vahn led an attack against Sorrow's Keep, Draeger ended up taking control of Vahn and forced him to attack his own allies, Ashe included. Yet, despite the brainwashing, Vahn held back enough to make the blows non-fatal. He managed to shake off the implanted mental command and return to his friends, but not before breaking Junzo's arm and savagely beating his lover, Ashe.
Through a combined effort of Ashe' summoning of the Leviathan, and Vahn's beheading of Draeger-- they were able to finally expel the wicked essence from the avatar, forcing the planet to reclaim it's child. However, there still remained enough corruption within the 'body' of Efreet itself. Ashe then took measurements to effectively seal away the remains, using Vahn's own left arm as a medium.
Created through the magic and prowess of Ashe, this arm contained all the negative energy and destruction that Efreet represented. This would be the beginnings of a darker persona within the hero. It was during this time that Victor was revealed to be still alive, having narrowly escaped death.
Afterwards, the survivors decided to take a "leave of absence", and secluded themselves within a derelict Tower in the south. There, Ashe showed Vahn that he had a soul, stronger than his inner demons.
BOOK 2
And so blood of my blood, flesh of my flesh, I bid thee farewell While many months passed in blissful seclusion, Victor had begun researching methods of removing the age suppressing seal from both he and his brother, as they wanted no part of a pseudo-immortal life. To do this, Victor undertook an expedition to locate Draeger's severed head, intending to gain access within the deep annals of Sorrow's Keep, hoping to find something... anything that would aid him.
This proved to be disastrous however, as Ashe, being so magically en tuned with the environment as she was, was invaded and was slowly being taken over by Draeger's remaining essence the moment she entered the remnants of Sorrow's Keep. Victor soon decided to get rid of her, but Vahn refused, and his brotherhood with Victor was destroyed in an instant. Vahn and Victor fought, and they were both badly injured wrecking the Tower of Babel itself in the process. Vahn had gained the upper hand in the fight but as Ashe attempted to prevent the killing of Victor, she was impaled by Victor's blade. Wracked with grief over the death of his true love, Vahn fell from the Tower, with Ashe in tow.
It was during this fall that Mari came to Vahn. She offered to save his life, in exchange for the task of preventing Victor from unearthing the forsaken knowledge of Sorrow's Keep. As noble as his intentions were, his actions would have grave repercussions for the future.
As Vahn had sworn devotion to Mari, in both spirit and body, he could hardly refuse. It was at this point, that both brothers would be ultimately and forever pitted against one another; as the last of the Murmillions.
Redemption is just another way of denying what we hate When he came to, he was confined to a bed, and being tended to by a young man who called himself Dain. He spent most of time within the city he had come to know as Strata, trying his best to fit in with the populace and cope with living a normal life. He even visited Ashe' grave site daily. However, the past was never meant to lay dormant.
His life had been spared for a sole reason.
Victor resurfaced, still seeking the power necessary to complete the age Geas, since he couldn't remove it completely. Considering he had thought Vahn to be dead, he had gone about his business slowly carving himself out a niche of power, in his quest to gain the freedom he had never claimed while in the Empire.
While trying to navigate and understand the depths that Sorrow's Keep held, Victor found himself with a conundrum, and one only solved by the ones who had helped to build and carve out the inner sactums and rooms of the Keep; the Lizard Clan.
However, none were willing to aid him, and the only way for Victor to even get them to consider was by igniting a civil war between the Lizard Clan and the human settlers in the southern regions of the land.
By doing this, it was easy enough to convince the younger, more brash Lizard warriors that the upper hand they needed in the war was to be found within the recesses of Sorrow's Keep.
However, Vahn appeared once more in Victor's path, as the Civil War dragged on, both brothers slowly becoming aware of the other once again.
It was in the once lush, and emerald fields of the southern lands that both brothers once again collided, in which the utter decimation of both forces was soon followed.
The cursed arm of Efreet had reacted to the immense bloodlust and negativity between both brothers, resulting in a blast and pulse that forever changed the landscape into a desert region.
Both brothers were presumed dead, and over 50 years pass.
BOOK 3
In this Stadium there was blood, in this Stadium we made the tears Nothing but a wanderer, a man simply known as Kasuga makes his way toward a place that caters to vagrants and violent individuals. Seeking seclusion and a means to make some sort of living, the first thing he does is pick a fight with the owner himself.
Guided to the location by nothing more than a fortune teller's reading, he arrives at the crossroads of destiny.
He would encounter the Avatar of the Oceans, the most eccentric blacksmith ever born, an enigmatic goddess, a lost reptile, a kindly nurse, an arrogant up and coming fighter as well as many others to come in this place. This had the beginnings of an actual home.
He would instantly find himself stricken and drawn to one particular individual, a young Sunstrike, and even going so far as to fortell the young man he was going to have the sole duty of ending his life when the time came.
Many fights were to be had, and he would find himself fatally attracted to Hawk, Latent's main squeeze. The two would embroil themselves in a fight, after he ended up sleeping with Hawk, causing Kasuga to actually leave the Stadium.
In the shadows of the cold, they reach Gone from the Stadium and with seemingly nowhere else to go, Kasuga is approached by two people who demand he return home.
Apparently having run away from the Tundra that is Guldor, Kasuga is forced back, as the rightful heir to the Kyonuske clan. With his adoptive father now dead, it is up to Kasuga to take up Clan matters.
And take them up, he does.
He goes about establishing the Clan as a worldwide power, with real financial backing and as a hired Mercenary outfit in the fashion of pure business.
However, he finds himself longing for the short life he lived in the stadium... being reminded of all those years ago.
The fighting, sweating, tears and blood.
Leaving matters in capable hands, he sets out, aiming to return to the Stadium, and surprised instead to find a call asking him to come back...
The First and Last Time... that the Heavens Shook, and the Earth cried Coming back to the only place that felt like home, Kasuga returns to find the Stadium in a state of literal war. The surrounding region is under assault as a takeover of sorts is in progress.
After interrogating those who aimed to ambush him as he arrived at the docks, he finds out that the one responsible is none other than Reiko Sakagami.
The only man to have matched Kasuga blow for blow, let alone able to stir something within him that he swears he often felt in the past...
Fighting his way to the Stadium itself, he eventually makes it to the main arena where his rival is waiting. Seeing the destruction all around him, he wastes no time in engaging and dueling Reiko. The following exchange takes them from the stands, into the halls and finally back to the main ring, where Reiko lands a fatal blow from behind.
Racked with pain, and unable to accept this loss, the dormant power of that negativity skyrockets once more, unleashing the same blast seen nearly 50 years ago to the South--- yet this time it was contained within the Stadium itself, due to the arcana placed within the structure.
As the smoke clears, the survivors are left to stand admist the rubble and ponder the future of what was to come.
Understanding what it means... to simply live It was only through the grace of Mari, that Kasuga's soul remained tethered to the world, through his previous obligation to fulfill on behalf of the Goddess. While it did not occur to him at the time why the pact was still being kept, he simply mistook it for benevolence on the part of Mari.
The remains of his body however, as few as they were, survived only through the power sealed within it; namely that of Efreet.
As such, it was Hawk, the then lesser Goddess of Fear, who was instructed by Mari to take the body where it may be repaired.
It was then that he ended up in LevKit, the scientific facility run by the daughter of Latent Leviathan himself. Through both magical and medical means, Kasuga was 'rebirthed', his body repaired over time.
However, due to the absence of the true owner's soul, the newly rejuvenated body is taken over by the remnants of Draeger's persona, reverting the essence of the true soul to some sort of primal manifestation of flame. Only through the intervention of Tellus, is the killing spree of the flame beast halted, and Kasuga reunited with his body.
In the revelations that followed, the guise of Kasuga is thrown away, and he once again undertakes his true name, Vahn Fah.
Why After several months of seclusion within LevKit, Vahn returns to a new Stadium, at the bequest of Leviathan himself. Vahn is offered the duties of caring for the Stadium while the man is away and allowed to staff and run it as he wishes.
Considering he had given his life to protect this very stadium, Vahn reluctantly accepts. He calls in the Kyonuske Clan, and tries his hand at running the Stadium, living the days away in blissful ignorance.
This would mark more prominent encounters with the Black Dragon, Kraun, in which Vahn finds himself time and time again questioning what it is he is fighting for exactly.
In an attempt to busy himself and perhaps as a way of doing something positive for once, Vahn unofficially takes up something of a 'pupil' in the form of one Silver Alexander at the bequest of the Kyonuske. Having been around the stadium long enough to hear the stories of Kasuga, and having the same flame potential, he chases after Vahn continuously, wanting to be trained and taken on as a student.
As the self doubt stemming from Kraun begins to erode his inner confidence, Vahn begins experiencing fluxes within his abilities, ultimately resulting in the total loss of control of his ability. He goes 'berserk', forcing several of the Kyonuske trying to restrain him unsuccessfully even with a few of the fighters stepping in.
However it was Sunstrike who went so far as to literally force Vahn to share the burden of the overload, thus transferring the power of the rabid flame to the young salamander as well for a time.
Soul Seperator During a seemingly normal training session between Sunstrike and Honoraven--- the intervention of Tellus in the creation of Nordic runes seems to go and capture the nearest essence of flame-- which apparently happened to be Vahn. The end result has Vahn trapped within a runic sphere; which gives off the appearance of a jet black giant marble.
While trapped within,' Vahn is mistaken for a "shiny jewel" by Maximos and snatched into the Shadow Realm, via the swordsman' top hat. Arriving in the new plane, the runic sphere is shattered and Vahn emerges, bereft of clothing as well as any body hair. He spends his first few weeks locked in the pantry closet of Maximos' estate-- which might as well have been soitary confinement with the utmost of darkness.
Nearly stark raving mad, he is finally found by Maximos' butler, Water. Treated and cared for, Vahn learns a bit about his would-be abductor, and is surprised to find that such a man could have existed throughout time as he himself did.
Through talks with Vahn, Walter discovers the connection with Efreet as a few particular items in the house begin to come to life...
Explaining his sudden loss of ability to Walter (or rather the lack of explanation), Water proposes to Vahn that he knows of a way to 'jump start' the power laying dormant within himself. Agreeing after remembering how he had gone out of control, Vahn goes through with Walter' method-- apparently taking into himself the pure blood of Efreet itself.
Bittersweet Memories The reaction in his body forces him into a comatose state in which he arrives at the forefront of his mind's 'plane of existence'-- finding that the reason for his lack of control is because something... or someone...is trying its hardest to take over his body from within. Within his mindscape, the past is recreated as he comes face to face with none other than his father, Draeger-- or what's left of him.
Fighting for not only control of his body, but the power of Efreet--- Vahn overcomes the remaining vestiges of Draeger and completely expels the nightmare from his psyche-- finally awakening.
It can be commented on as being ironic, that he should come full circle... from keeping the flame within him, to finally uniting with the flame itself. During his stay with Walter, he undergoes some training in the use of his new flame and is granted possession of items that were apparently made by Efreet itself, which were stored with a great deal many other relics of the past. He is eventually released from the Shadow Realm and transported to a mysterious Island in the west-- back on Gaia.
Several months pass by as Vahn explores the ruins of the Island, and fends off attempts of the resident Fire Dragon to make him its dinner. He learns a bit about the culture and history surrounding the terrestrial avatar known as Efreet, as well as the forgers of the items he now possesses.
Vahn makes his return to the Stadium, nearly a year later, riding atop the very same Fire Dragon that attempted to eat him.
Only through Providence do we succeed Several months pass by without incident.
The days seem to drag on and Vahn, while having regained control of his ability-- is still haunted by the self doubt implanted within him so long ago by a certain monk. Nearly retreating to his old former self-- he is accompanied more and more by the light hearted and ever cheery Sunstrike.
However--- whenever something good happens, disaster is not too far along. The sudden appearance of a prophetic figure transforms the stadium into a blood fest-- as people all over start losing their powers, and become awash in fear. Panic and fights break out in almost every part of the Stadium-- even within the very ranks of the Kyonuske.
It is during this commotion, that Victor reappears in Vahn's life, having masqueraded as one of the Kyonuske Captains during Vahn's absence; his goal? The location of the spell Ashe had used to entrap Efreet within Vahn so many decades ago. And find it he does, within Sunstrike's own body.
Fighting his way to Victor, Vahn reaches Sunstrike just in time to save him-- but not to prevent the theft of the spell. With parting words, Victor leaves Vahn having gained what he wanted.
With destruction rampant all around them, Vahn fights to stay on his feet. Sunstrike does all he can, and [******** to Vahn all his remaining flame, fueling the Murmillion with enough power to face Providence; the source of the chaos in the Stadium.
It is only in the engagement of battle, that Vahn discovers the identity of Providence: Kraun the Black Dragon-- reborn with purpose. Finding themselves in a full circle-- the two leviathans face off one final time, as they had before in the past.
In an epic duel, the two clash yet the more skillful Providence manages to strike a seemingly mortal blow, leaving Vahn reeling. On the brink of death, something within Vahn resonates to the point of taking over, and it is this immense flame that is finally able to deal the only blow to Providence..
However this is briefly celebrated, as Vahn reasserts control having no knowledge of what happened, only to be blown away by tornado force winds conjured by an injured Providence. Knowing the situation was extremely dire, Vahn used up every single bit of energy within his body to manifest his desire to protect everyone into the form of a flaming phoenix which was somehow able to transport all those within to a safe distance outside while not harming them.
The survivors watch as the Stadium is decimated by both opposing forces.
A flame in the desert of my heart Having survived, Vahn and Sunstrike wind up being far flung to the southern reaches of the continent. They are found by the siblings, Hibon and Nahara and taken into Strata...which just so happens to be one of Vahn's old haunts.
Vahn recovers, while Sunstrike learns more about Vahn's past from magic shopkeeper known as Dain. Sunstrike forms a kinship with Nahara and Hibon, the grandchildren of Dain-- and even helps along with their errands, finding comfort in family he never thought possible. Several months pass, as Vahn both recuperates, and makes use of Dain's library to try and trace the origin of a tower in the desert, which haunts his memory; the Tower of Babel.
It is during this time that Vahn becomes conflicted in his true feelings towards Sunstrike, struggling with the idea that he might actually be infatuated with another man... or even more troublesome.. in love.
Two 'devils' arrive in Strata, looking for Vahn-- in timing with a roving undead band led by an undead knight. The citizens are fooled into thinking they are being invaded by the neighboring Lizard clan(sentient race of lizards). In all the commotion, Vahn confronts the undead knight, barely able to stave him off in his state.Nahara and Hibon suffer wounds while fighting, as does Sunstrike who manages to stave off one of the attackers, a fellow lizard like himself. Vahn finally arrives to intervene, only to find out he still can't use his flame; he is beaten nearly to death when Dain himself shows up and forces the intruders to retreat with powerful magic. Sunstrike is however taken in exchange for Strata being spared.
Vahn recuperates while Strata becomes assaulted by the actual Lizard Clan force; Sunstrike had been taken to Hollow, the ascentral lair of the Lizard Clan. Much like the Stratans had been fooled-- the Lizard Clan too was deceived into thinking that Strata militia soldiers had launched an offensive first.
Sunstrike discovers that his lizard persona, Dathos is apparently the inherent chief of the Lizard Clan, and discovers he actually has a brother. Using his position, and with Vahn's help-- an any more violence from both races is ended in a grim truce as the truth was revealed. Eventually, discovery of Victor's whereabouts are surprisingly made as Sunstrike's brother reveals that there has been an unusual amount of activity in the sands of Barthavos.
Tower of Babel
Arrival of Tellus and Raven, who have come following Sunstrike's trail. The four soon head off towards the location of "Babel", the tower in which Victor has housed himself in.
Navigating the perils of Babel, Vahn is surprised to encounter a face from the past--- Sierra, Mistress of the Dark Sakura Guild. However, this wasn't the Sierra he knew, but her sister, Ra'kar, who had forcibly taken over the body and is aiding Victor. Unable to rescue her, the group does manage to salvage Lucind-- the Siren Songstress, whom Victor has no need for after she has released the locks on Babel's controls.
The combined might of all four are unable to stop Victor from escaping to Eden, via the Tower.
With nothing left to do but seek more information, the group disbands, deciding on their own course of actions. Vahn and Sunstrike begin traveling back North, after tying up loose ends in Strata.
Heaven or Hell: Year One Vahn is convinced by Silver to participate in HoH, especially after discovering that Sierra, currently possessed by her sister persona Ra'kar, is also a participant. He puts together a team, which dubs itself GLACIER, and leaves Silver in charge of all the details. Consisting of Silver, Sunstrike and Vahn, the trio is joined by the up and coming rookie of the Stadium, the half-golem Shouyin. Vahn is unable to obtain any direct information and is nearly killed in his fight with Ra'kar.
HoH draws to a close, and even with winning the grand prize, Vahn is dissatisfied. Soon after, Latent comes under attack and with no choice but to do what he feels is right... Vahn heads off to the lonely battle. Only to be accompanied by Sunstrike at the last moment. The two become separated as they try their best to help out-- which leads to Vahn encountering Lucind, outside her book shop. Engaging in a massive fight with an undead bone behemoth that suddenly rises up from the waters outside Latent, Vahn becomes severely injured, his right arm broken and his body badly beaten.
With his life in serious jeopardy, once more he manifests avatar-class flame control as a defensive mechanism.
Its Hatred that binds us Waking up, nearly a week later-- Vahn finds himself in a hospital of a different city altogether. They were brought in by a man named Yaits, as explained to him by Lucind, who apparently was taken in as well, needing treatment for her hands after having handled Vahn's sword. She also informs Vahn that it was Yaits who had Vahn's right arm completely repaired...
Eventually, Yaits himself comes in, congratulating them both on recovering and a job well done. Suspicious of Yaits' intent, Vahn is relunctant to stay any longer that he has to within the strange city, feeling more than disturbed by his benefactor's enthusiasm.
As Yaits explains himself to Vahn, he also lets him know that he can provide many resources in the aid of tracking down Victor-- which surprises Vahn. Yaits simply states that he and Victor have opposing 'definitions of the game'-- and offers these services only for Vahn's 'employment' in turn. With no other choice, he reluctantly agrees to work for him' in order to find out the whereabouts of the people he has to find. Yaits simply silently grins.
On one such notable assignment he is sent to the town of Ariel.... as a branch of the Yaits Corp. which had been dealing with 'special experimentations' has gone without communication for than a week. Arriving, he finds the entire town to be nothing short but a display of death and carnage-- and encounters for the first time, a creature known as a Shade.
It is in this that Vahn also encounters Rage for the first time-- as the green haired swordsman tag teams with Vahn in order to defeat the fluidly attacking shadow. With its defeat, Vahn reports in to Yaits, who tells Vahn to obtain more information on the Shades leaving Vahn to wonder what connection the experiments Yaits men had been doing here had to do with the monsters. Tagging along with Rage in the belief that he could obtain more information, since he admitted to encountering the Shades before, he arrives at Gambino, where Rage lives-- and more specifically arrives at the Firebrand Tavern.
Petals of Chaos Staying at the tavern, a sort of rivalry seems to form between Vahn and Rage almost instantly-- as they compete in even the most outlandish of things; such as cooking, cleaning, balancing acts, etc.
It is also here that Vahn meets Owle for the first time. She seems wary and unphased by him at first, but its clear that there seems to be some tension between the two of them. He had started out trying to get on her good side so he could find out about the Shades, but with her mental abilities, he found himself having to not only gain her trust with deception--- but genuinely care for her.
This created the rash and odd behavior of him stating he cared for her and sometimes even showing it--- yet appearing other times to go out of his way to do things that would drive her away or crazy. This was especially true when Owle became involved in an incident known as 'The Petals of Chaos'.
With the very fabric and state of the world at stake, Vahn became involved with several dozen other individuals in a literal race against time, as reality slowly became more and more absurd or 'chaotic'. In a roundabout fashion he carved his own path to the goal, ending up as a pivotal player along two others in a final showdown with the person responsible; the Viceroy- the embodiment of Chaos itself.
It was through eventual team work that the Viceroy was eventually toppled-- as Vahn subconsciously tapped into the higher class of flame within his body and was able to pierce through the Viceroy.
As the realm they were in began to break apart with the Viceroy' defeat-- Vahn sacrificed himself in order to allow the two other men to escape, by forcing open a gap back into the void with his sword. Yet-- at the last instant, as chaos swirled all around him and threatened to take him into nothing-- he is rescued as the efforts of everyone involved up to that point help pull him back out.
Second chances (Vahn and Owle meet up again, Lucind is visited by Vahn for the first time since Yaits, and he gets his arm sealed as well as told his 'boss' is dead.
Upon exiting Lucind's shop, Vahn and Owle run into another couple... who have been looking for them.
Garden of Guldor
Owle stays behind and Vahn goes on in, winding up in Guldor. He receives a new set of clothes, and heads off in the direction he 'feel's Sun is in.
He winds up arriving at one of the many Kyonuske towers scattered through Guldor, and finds nothing but dead bodies and signs of a struggle. Unbeknown to him, Victor had come and basically wiped out the entire clan, using some of them as the base for his Nephilim.
While he's mourning this loss, and feeling like he's let everyone around him down, Walter, shows up out of nowhere, as if he'd been waiting for Vahn all this time. He says he's here to give Vahn the final piece missing in his 'Efreet set'.
Which apparently isn't a new item, but making the items sorta 'interlock', which then forms a complete set of armor, basically upgrading Vahn into a Flame Lord-- a step closer towards becoming the Terrestrial Avatar of Flame--- namely, Efreet's successor.
Vahn survives the process, and finds difficulty in moving around in this new armor, which really sucks because an enormous magic eating machine...thing comes literally round the corner... and makes a beeline for Vahn, who's just bleeding fire out like a sieve.
With the armor doing most of the work, Vahn manages to fend off the thing, until it swallows him whole, and he just explodes it from the inside out. As the dust settles, Vahn finds himself on the remains of this machine hybrid... and finds Sunstrike sealed as the core, or battery for the thing. Freeing him, with the help of Lazenca who for whatever reasons had been in the frozen waste as well, Sun wakes up and reacts violently, only having memories of the people and family he had gotten to know in Guldor. The amount of magic the machine stole and forced sun to absorb throttled him up to near-omni potent levels, to the point that Sun actually began manipulating the earth and frozen land of Guldor, moving it enough that the climate would be changed---enough for him to force a garden to just up and sprout right there.
Lazenca fights Sun, buying enough time for Vahn to come back to his senses, and confront Sun emotionally, whereupon Vahn decides to bring Sun back to normal by taking away all that 'power'. He does this by using the Hand of Efreet to focus and lock away a majority of that arcana within Sunstrike's left eye, and then plucking it out.
Vahn stumbles away from the collapsed body, leaving Lazenca to carry Sun back through the portal into latent, whereupon Vahn just chooses to wander away into the wastes of Guldor as it returned to normal.
Shades of Grey The Vale events. (Sun is around, but he and Vahn never actually meet, although Vahn is involved as well.)
Azum The last we see of Vahn had him launching a lone assault against all of Skinner's remaining forces, and Vahn being struck by a giant crane/hook thing.
Vahn had survived, and made his way back to civilization as far as the Barton Mountains, before collapsing and being found by a young girl.
A young girl who curiously reminded him of Owle. Nursed back to health, Vahn learns the girls name, Tiamaka (I think) and takes to calling her Ta'ka. He makes a promise to help her find home or some mention of her parents, since she did kind of help him not die and all.
At full strength, Vahn makes his way back to Barton, and its then that he receives a call from Owle, asking him to come to Latent, at the request of Lucind. Figuring he could get Owle to help him with Ta'ka as well, he accepts and heads there.
Upon arriving, he goes to the tavern where Lucind asks that they meet at. After Vahn introduces Ta'ka to Lucind, Owle arrives and is immediately attacked by Ta'ka who has some sort of GENOCIDE mode activated. Lucind knocks Ta'ka out with a lull song, and the three decide to leave her behind in the care of good people, which Vahn feels bad about.
Lucind explains what the problem is, and why she needs Owle and Vahn to help her, and they set sail for the continent of Azum.
