Aramis slowly dresses himself, his wrists aching badly. |

Thinking back, it certainly wasn't a good idea to slit his wrists again. Besides, cutting through the previous scar tissue was a lot tougher than he'd anticipated. He leans over the edge of his bed, tossing the blanket aside and reaching for his olive green T-shirt, laying in a crumpled heap on the floor. He can't quite reach it. "Damn it," he hisses, not really wanting to get up. Still, the laws of physics cut him down yet again, and he is forced to get out of bed. Standing in front of the full-lengthed mirror, he looks down at himself, or, more specifically, at the scars on his sides. Scars that remind him of far darker times, a period in his life when things weren't so steady. Gingerly, he guides his fingers over the outlines of the hideous anomalies, and sighs, wondering how things might have been, had he made different decisions. Suddenly, the door swings open. Reckless stands in the doorway, his arms crossed over his chest angrily. "Gonna stare at your pretty face all day, or are we leaving yet?" he asks, annoyed.
"Got in a fight today," Aramis says with a slight grin, turning his attentions to Reckless. "And damned if it didn't feel good." Reckless raises his eyebrows in interest and walks into the room, pulling out a chair from under Aramis' desk and sitting in it, facing his friend. "Do tell," he says with a sly smile." "Some people just don't get the hint, you know," Aramis begins, fetching a cigarette from his desk drawer, placing it between his lips, and lightign it. "I told him to leave my fiance alone. As a matter of fact, I'm sure my fiance told him to leave him alone... But he pretended like I wasn't even there. Pretended not to see me or hear anything I said. Yesterday, he got on my last nerve, but I made a promise to Kitty that I wouldn't make a move unless the other guy did so. The coward didn't make a move... so I didn't beat his face in. Today, however, was different..."
Aramis pulls his shirt over his head and takes a seat on the edge of his bed, directly across from Reckless. "Some people tend to think that life is all about them. Just recently, someone told me to--get this--leave them alone when I'd never even attepmted to make contact in the first place. Isn't that an absolute riot? This person contacted ME and accused ME of harrassment. In my opinion, it's a last desperate attempt to keep me involved in his/her life. I'm perfectly fine with never speaking to him/her again. Never sought him/her out at all. But it seems he/she has been looking for me and reading up on what I've been doing. He/she thinks so highly of him/herself that he/she thinks everything I've told you... is about HIM/HER!" "Sounds like this person has quite the ego," Reckless says with a little laugh. "Sounds like this person is looking for an excuse to talk to me," Aramis responds similarly. "As a matter of fact, he/she told me that he/she cannot believe just how much better his/her lover is than I am. Well... all I can say is that no matter how fantastic his/her lover is... HE/SHE still cheated on his/her lover with ME! So much for love! Hah! He/she was soooo very much in love that he/she went looking for affection elsewhere! And then has the nerve to blame his/her problems on me."
"Childish," Reckless notes. "Not to mention ignorant," Aramis replies. "That does sound like a desperate attempt to keep in contact with you." "And the thing is, it was he/she who suggested we never speak to each other again in the first place! I complied!" "You can't argue with desperation." "He/she also saw it fit to throw insults." "Again, childish." "Against my family and talents." "Absolutely childish. Pubescent." "I didn't contest it at all. It seems, then, that I am a failed artist." "So I've noticed. This is almost laughable. So he/she compares you to his/her lover in a negative way?" "Almost every day, I'm certain." "Then every day, he/she is forcing him/herself to think about you again and again and again. Every time he/she looks at her lover, he/she is reminded of how you were able to swoon him/her into betraying that trust. Whether he/she likes it... or realizes it or not... he/she is desperately trying to remember you." "Quite desperately." "Most desperately." "Indeed." "But this isn't the fight I spoke of earlier." "No? Then what was this all abou--" "I just wanted to tell you! Now... about the fight today..."
Aramis leans back and rests on the palm of his hands, grinning slightly. "Remember how I told you I've been having a little trouble with a certain someone...? Someone who sought to make my life a living hell by claiming my fiance? Well, I put a stop to that, proper." Reckless' eyes light up. "Really?" he asks, intritued. "Do tell!"
Aramis slowly, somewhat lazily recounts the day's events. Kitty had just recently changed his name to reflect the person whose affections he'd won over at the moment, and all of a sudden, a jealous lover comes in making a scene. Although it had always been in the back of Aramis' mind that Kitty hadn't been completely truthful with him, he decided to sit back and let this one ride out--at Kitty's request. "Let's pretend I'm not him," he said, and Aramis complied. Ignoring the jealous lover's ranting, he let the storm died down, though his veins burned for confrontation. Sparing all the more hectic details, all involving cussing and a flaring rage, Aramis ties up the story neatly, Reckless staring at him in wide-eyed disgust. "You fought over a boy?" Reckless asked, standing up. "That isn't the Aramis I remember." "I fought because I felt I was being disrespected," Aramis defends quickly, standing up as well. "I give respect unconditionally, and I would like it if I'm treated the same way! That goes for you as well!" Reckless throws a look at Aramis that could very well have split his head in half, if he had the ability. "Don't... cross... that... line," he whispers. "Now finish getting dressed. We have things to do."
