I was almost in a car accident last night. Lucky me.
I was heading home from yet another band competition and we head towards where all accidents occur: an intersection. So, we're at the intersection, about to head towards the other side, and some idiot runs the stop sign at the speed of light and, of course, everybody who sees this is like eek And then I see something bouce, look over the bus driver and I see that there was an accident. The parents flew out with the med kit (yay us, we have a med kit) and I was screaming at everybody with a cellphone, "911!!! NOW!!!"
The speeding driver hit someone else that was coming out of the intersection. As I'm watching this, I am thinking, "OMFG did I just witness a death!?" Which, needless to say, would have REALLY sucked... moreso for the drivers than myself.
So, the speeding driver and friend get out of car, swaying back and forth, and I do believe I saw someone bend over in a puking position. My conclusion: they were drunk.
Luckily, no one was seriously injured and, literally, the authorities were there in a matter of seconds. (I think there were some firetrucks right behind us when the accident happened.) Only, there was some reason for concern when a parent came in asking for a 4x4 gauze.
So, I, of course, am freaked. I saw it in a nightmarish p.o.v... you know how you see scary stuff in nightmares, really distorted and really fast (really fast cuz, you know, he was speeding and all...)
And so I'm thinking. They could have died. WE could have died. My mother, who was in a car accident a while back, could have died then. I might just die in a car accident tomorrow, or during my youth. Same goes for family, friends, etc. DEATH
So, yeah, now I'm shaken and crying and my mom knows I'm crying and I'm trying to hide it as best I can by putting my face on the window and pretending to be asleep.
I am NEVER riding shotgun again.
