This is a fairy tale that I randomly made up for a forum in Gaia. Yes this is an original work. AKA It's mine so please don't use it and take credit for it. Any comments or constructive criticisms are welcome.
Once upon a time there was a dark forest. And in this dark forest was a forgotten tower that used to be the home of a very beautiful little girl. The little girl used to laugh and play all day in the forests surrounding the tower. As she grew though, she became very lonely. The only people who had ever come to visit her were her father and brother who had put her in the tower in the first place. They told her that it was for her own protection because evil men were trying to kill her.
The girl was very free spirited though and it wasn't long before she decided to go and try to find more people by herself. So she packed up some food and some clothes and her two most prized possessions; a beautiful mirror that had been her mother's and very elegant and powerful looking sword that her father had given her to protect herself.
The girl decided to follow a little stream that she had found during her afternoons of play that flowed very close to the tower. She walked and walked for an entire day, never leaving edge of the water. When night came the girl built a small fire and sat huddled very close to it. She was used to being alone but not to all of the noises of the forest. Soon though, exhaustion overwhelmed her and her eyes drifted closed. Later that night, when she awoke, the girl screamed. A man was sitting on a rock near by and was gazing into the flames.
He chuckled at her scream and then, in a very kind voice, said "Don't worry milady, you are safe with me. You're lucky I came along when I did. You fire was almost out and it's not safe to be in these woods at night without a fire."
The girl stared in amazement. She could only ever remembered seeing her brother and her father and they both had black hair and dark eyes. But this strange man had hair the color of the sun and eyes the color of the sky. It took her a while to realize that she had been staring at the man.
"Thank you" she finally said in a whisper.
The man smiled at her and they began talking. She told him of the tower and the games that used to play and her current quest to find other people. The name then asked her what her name was.
After a few minutes of quiet thought the girl replied "I don't remember. It's been so long since I've heard it that I've forgotten what it was."
With a sad smile, the man replied "Then I shall call you Lady."
The girl smiled back immediately liking her new name. They continued talking and the man now told her of his home. He told her of how his mother, a powerful and loving but sometimes very strict queen, had told him to leave the kingdom of his home and not to come back until he had completed himself. He told her of how he had wondered around for months trying to figure out what his mother had meant until he had found a small abandoned cottage in the woods where he had decided to make his home. Finishing his story, the man then looked right into the girl’s eyes. It felt like he was looking into the depths of her soul.
"You could come and stay with me." He offered to her, a hint of shyness in his voice. The girl didn't know what to say but she felt drawn to this stranger who had so openly share his life with her.
"Yes, I will come and live with you." she said very quietly, afraid that he would not be able to hear her. But the man had and as soon as she said this he reached over a kissed her, very gently, on the cheek.
Suddenly, the air around the two become very cold and with a loud crack of thunder and a flash of lightning, a woman appeared in the midst of their small camp. The woman was very beautiful. She wore a very pale blue gown covered in small blue and white jewels and on her head sat a very intricate and delicate tiara made of silver. And out of the back of the gown was a very bright blue set of wings.
"You're a fairy!" The girl exclaimed as she gaped at the tall woman.
"Yes I am, dear child." The Fairy Queen said in a calm and sweet voice. "And so is my son."
At her words, the man became surrounded by a green aura. With a look of heartbreak Lady watched as a pair of blue wings sprouted from the man’s back. He looked back at her with a very mournful expression on his own face as tears began to slowly seep down the girl's face.
"Do not cry dear child." The queen said, bending over and stroking the girl's hair and wiping away a tear. "Even being a fairy could never separate two who complete each other."
The Fairy Prince gazed at his mother with a look of hope in his dark eyes.
"Do you mean that she can come with me back home?" He asked.
"Of course she can, if she wants to." The queen replied with a soft smile.
After thinking for a moment, the girl answered "Yes, I think I would like that very much."
"This will hurt my child and nothing is ever free. You must leave all your worldly possessions behind and you will be asked to perform a task for the fairy royal court in exchange for being given this gift of becoming one of us. Are you sure that this is what you want?"
With a frown, Lady thought about the mirror and the sword that had been given to her. Gaining a small amount of courage she asked the fairy queen "Can I at least take the mirror and the sword that my parents gave me with me?"
With a sad smile the queen replied "No, but if you become a fairy, I will turn the mirror into a lake and the sword will rest at the bottom. Your task will be to guard the sword and the lake and use your magic to help those of mankind who are noble. If this is satisfactory to you then I will turn you into a fairy."
With a slight grin, the girl stood up walked over and grabbed the Prince’s hand. Holding it tightly she nodded and said "I will do what you ask of me as long as we can be together."
With a wave of her hands, the fairy queen enveloped the girl in a bright purple light. The girl cried and clutched at the man's hand as the pain seared through her as her new wings grew. When the pain subsided, the girl fainted from the stress of growing her own wings.
When she awoke, Lady was in a beautiful room and her Prince was sitting there, still holding her hand.
With a gentle kiss on her palm, he smiled and said "Good morning."
From that day forward the two of them lived in the beautiful palace of the Fairy Queen. Lady, or Lady of the Lake as she later became known, kept her promise to the fairy queen and she and her prince lived happily ever after.
