Go back on the road with Sam and Dean Winchester in this revised and updated edition of the best-selling The Essential Supernatural by Nicholas Knight & Eric Kripke. Filled with interviews with the cast and crew of the hit show, stunning behind-the-scenes-imagery and art, and a wealth of thrilling removable items, this updated version includes new chapters on seasons 8 and 9 and a preview of the upcoming season 10. This deluxe edition dissects the show season by season, state by state, tracking the Winchester brothers as they travel across the U.S. in their distinctive classic car.
Join them as they hunt all those things that go bump in the night, seek vengeance on the Yellow-Eyed Demon that killed their parents, deal with the Knights of Hell, and stop the bona fide Apocalypse! Illustrated with full-color images, behind-the-scenes photos, exclusive production art, and other elements—such as continuity photos and even the covers of the in-universe Supernatural novels by Chuck Shurley—this is the ultimate guide to Supernatural for the show’s legion of fans.
I got this for Christmas last year from my sister because she knows I’m a huge fan of the show. I was expecting the book to be filled with only information on the characters, a short summary about each seasons and a couple of behind-the-scenes with lots of photos of Sam and Dean, but it surprised me. It so much more than just those things. This large mass-produced hardcover book is well-made with thick quality paper and is so lovely to look at. If you remove the cover jacket you get a hardcover that has the appearance of an old-fashioned bound book.
The book basically maps out the show season by season, state by state, tracking the Winchester brothers as they travel across the U.S. in their distinctive classic car. It gives you not only a summary of each season, but an inside look at how they bought the episodes to life. I find the behind-the scenes stuff to be the best parts of it. You get details on the tools, props, costumes, concept sketches, and the creation of the hotel room sets. It’s also filled with goodies, which I won’t reveal because I don’t want to ruin the surprise. There’s interviews from the cast and crew and a foreword from the show’s creator – Eric Kripke.
The current Revised and Updated Edition has seasons 1 - 10. There’s a high possibility that once the show ends they’ll update it with the rest of the seasons. If you’re getting this book for a fan (or for yourself) I would recommend that you wait until there’s a completed edition that has the entire 15 seasons of the show. If it happens because I don’t know for sure that this book will get a final update.
But it won’t hurt to wait and see if it does. For all I know they might make a volume two of the The Essential Supernatural: On the Road with Sam and Dean Winchester which would contain the rest of the seasons. It’s also pricey, ranging from $40-50, but the sheer level of meticulous care that went into the making of this books is worth every single dollar. Either way, I know that fans of the show would love and appreciate this book if they ever got it.
