Recently I’ve been getting some lovely comments about my skin and questions on my skincare routine. My skin is far from perfect, but it’s a huge improvement on how it was previously. It’s all thanks to the products I use now.
Of course, I don’t always use the same products or all of them at the same time. It just depends on my skin (like if it’s dry, oily, mixed or I’m experiencing an acne breakout) and if it’s morning or night. I make sure to change the products in my routine accordingly. It’s also because I don’t want my skin to become too use to the products. You know, so that the effectiveness of the product won’t wear off.
These are the products that I use. Now, just because they’re working for me doesn’t mean that they’ll work for you. Everyone’s skin type is different and they’ll react differently to each product.
Serious Skincare Glycolic Cleanser - This gentle, oil-free cleanser is for all skin types. It helps remove buildup of dead skin cells, which can dull your complexion. Its low pH balance is also perfect for a deep pore cleansing. I only use this when I’m starting to break out or when I sense that I will.
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser - This is a very good product because it does a lot for your skin. It’s recommended by dermatologists because it’s formulated as a gentle, non-irritating cleanser for even the most sensitive skin. It’s soap-free, fragrance-free and non–comedogenic (won’t clog pores). It can remove dirt and make-up without stripping the skin of its natural protective oils or emollients, or disrupting your skin’s natural pH balance. However, for those that are concern about parabens this product contains them. I’m not going to get into the what it is and why it may or may not be a good ingredient, but the FDA can explain it better than I.
Nivea A Kiss of Smoothness Hydrating Lip Care SPF 10 - This is a must for me, no matter if it’s summer or winter. I put some after my skincare routine, just before bedtime (or before I leave the house) because I hate having chapped lips. Nivea is non-comedogenic, which means that it won’t clog my pores and won’t cause breakouts around my mouth. I also use Vaseline Lip Therapy Advance (mostly in the winter) because it’s just as great. Note: I make sure that any chapstick or lip balm that I get are non-comedogenic.
Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer with Broad Spectrum SPF 15 - This product is great for summer. My face tends to get oily and the last thing I need is an oily moisturizer that adds on to it. This is oil-free, non-comedogenic, and PABA-free. It also has some vitamins and minerals for your skin, such as vitamin E and Aloe vera.
AcneFree 24 Hour Severe Acne Clearing System - This is the main reason why my acne hasn’t appeared on my face in a long time (and when I do get a breakout it’s pretty small). The system cost about $21, it’s a lot cheaper then Proactive. I gave up on having clear skin when none of the other products I used worked. I actually tried this on a whim and I’m glad I did because this worked so well for me. It comes with a Cleansing Wash, which is medicated with prescription-grade micro-benzoyl peroxide. The oil-free formula removes dead skin cells and excess oil that can lead to severe acne. The Corrective Toner is an oil-control, pH-balancing formula. It targets deficiencies in acne-troubled skin that can cause blemishes to worsen, last longer and heal slower. It helps normalize skin and gently removes excess surface oils. The Repair Lotion goes deep into the pores to fight acne-causing bacteria and helps reduce excess oil production. It also treats existing acne breakouts and helps to stop new outbreaks before they start. The Retinol Complex is a skin renewing night formula, making the skin healthier, smoother, and cleaner. I can go on and on about how much this has helped me win the battle against my acne, but I’ll leave it at that.
Acnefree Therapeutic Sulfur Mask - This is an excellent product to use, especially for oily or acne-prone skin. It’s formulated with sulfur, Vitamin C, copper, zinc and meadowsweet to minimize the appearance of pores and refine skin’s tone and texture. The color signal technology turns the mask light blue when treatment is complete and ready to be rinsed off.
Serious Skincare Dry Lo Acne Spot Treatment - This is a pricey one at $24 or $21, depending on where you get it. I got it as a gift from my sister to try out. Its suppose to help clear acne blemishes, blackheads and whiteheads. And prevent the development of new acne blemishes. I don’t know about it making pimples disappear overnight as it claims to do. But I’ve notice that it does help to calm the redness and irritation. It contains 10% colloidal sulfur and is intended for single pimples or isolated outbreaks. It’s not meant for large area of skin or persistent outbreaks. I definitely use this when I feel a pimple coming in or when I want it heal faster.
Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer - It contains soy complex and salicylic acid to help clear up blemishes and improve the health of your skin. It’s oil-free, with acne-fighting ingredients that clears and helps prevent breakouts, and helps even out skin tone. It’s also hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic.
Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Face Scrub - It is dermatologist tested and it gives you visibly clearer skin in as little as 12 hours. It is scientifically formulated with maximum strength acne medication and exfoliating beads that work quickly to open blocked pores, giving you visibly clearer skin fast. Whenever I need a scrub this is my go to, especially after wearing makeup for a while.
Serious Skincare Triple-Acting Glycolic Mask - This is a deep-pore cleansing mask, that will remove oil and debris of dead skin cells. The exfoliating properties help firm and treat the skin giving it a tighter, youthful appearance. I’ve notice that this mask cleans and shrinks my pores, making my skin look more smooth and tight. I don’t see it doing anything for my acne, but I don’t use this for that reason. I just like that my face gets a glowingly and fresh, almost flawless appearance after I wash off the mask.
