Wild cats sleep about 16 hours, while domestic cats often sleep up to 20 hours. For the wild cat, the sleep is needed because, as hunters, they require a great deal of impulsive energy to make their kill. Our cats sleep more, often because they’re bored as they don’t have the stimulation of the hunt. So, it’s up to us to simulate a cat’s instinct of tracking and pouncing on prey by making sure that they play enough.
It’s very important for cat owners to know that because it keeps them from attacking you and keeping you up late at night. That’s why every cat owner needs toys for them and to play with them regularly, especially before bed time. If you happen to have a cat and they’re randomly attacking your legs, pouncing on you, scratching you or even biting and whatnot (even when you’re not provoking them at all) then that’s the reason why.
They want to play, to be entertain and they want your attention. Best way to do that is to play with them with cat toys. Most popular cat toy is the Da Bird, which is a rod with a string and feathers attached at the end. It mimics the flight and sound of a real bird. Then there’s the Crinkle Balls, which are lightweight balls that make a crinkling noise. That’s just a few of the popular cat toys and there’s a lot more. Not all cats are the same, some might perfer toys with strings/feathers over the ball toys or whatnot, but there’s a toy for every cat.
The reason I’m writing this is because I’ve finished watching a bunch of episodes of My Cat From Hell. What bothered me a lot was that majority of the cat owners didn’t even have ANY cat toys for their pet. It common sense that every pet needs toys to play with, from birds, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc. Just think of pets as human children because they require similar care and responsibility. Just like children, pets need toys to play with, to be fed, need their diaper change (in the pet case’s they need their litter box clean), they need to be groomed/bathe, etc.
