Last night dream was strange but it seemed familiar, like it was something I’ve seen or heard before. Then I realize afterwards that the dream was a fusion of a fandom I love and Bedazzled (a comic retelling of the Faust legend).
Basically, it was pretty much like the film, where the Devil offers an unhappy young man seven wishes in return for his soul. The Devil twists the spirit of the wishes to frustrate the man’s hopes.
Just like that movie, in the dream I was the Devil or demon. I wasn’t exactly sure on what role I was playing because there are many other creatures that can make wishes come true. Anyway, I found a cute geeky guy who seem to be down on his luck and miserable. Because I’m not human and powerful I could take on any form. I decided to take on a form that reflected what I like…so I really didn’t look like my real self at all.
He was leaving the library and on his way to a coffee shop. I decided to appear to him as a hot babe and “bump” into him. I tell him I want to help him find the girl of his dreams and put some excitement to his boring life. I allow him to give me a test wish in order to get him to believe that I’m not lying. Once he accepted that I’m the real deal I had him sign a contract and that was when the fun begin.
Oh, did I not mention that this dream took place in the Devil May Cry universe? Apparently it did because my dream decided to throw a curve ball at me by having Dante show up trying to stop me from taking that guy’s soul. The guy…forgot his name but I shall call him Raz realizes that I’m not fulfilling his wishes the way he wants. That’s because he’s not being specific enough which leaves me room to interrupted them to whatever I want. The guy doesn’t want me to have his soul so he finds Dante’s place and asks him to free him from me.
Dante knows I can’t be the real Satan because Mundus is the ruler of the Underworld. So it has him curious as to what am I and what my goal is. He figures I can’t be a regular demon because if I was I wouldn’t have the actual power to make such wishes come true. It requires a lot of power and many wish granting beings/creatures have limits. Plus, from what Dante has been hearing about me from Raz, I’m not fitting in with the known wish granting creatures.
Raz has two wishes left and I try to get him to make another wish but Dante interferes trying to kill me. Dante tries to shoot me, slice me, blow me up and whatnot but I’m pretty strong and clever to get out of dangerous situations. I tell him that he’s getting in the way and that I’ll let him know what I’m doing after I’m done.
At some point Raz gets attacked by lower class demons. Dante was going to rescue him but he was surprise to see me save Raz. Dante knows I could have use the opportunity to force Raz to make a wish that I would save him. That or I could have let him die and take his soul already. After all, my contract has a lot of loop holes all for my benefit. It would be very possible that there was something about a person dying without finishing their wishes. That I could collect their souls as long as their death wasn’t my doing; direct or indirect involvement.
Dante’s not a hundred percent sure but he knows I could have collected this guy’s soul before he even went to his shop. At that point he’s putting the pieces together that I’m not a typical bad guy and there’s something off about me and my method. He’s still not sure what I want with souls, but he’s finding me interesting and his source of entertainment.
In the end Raz learns a lesson. He mustn’t be selfish. His last wish was unselfish and it was what freed him from his contract with me. I told him that I lied, that I’m not really the Devil but something else that this world lacks of. After that, Raz never saw me again. I checked up on him a couple of weeks later and I see that he’s living his life in happiness. He worked up the courage to ask out the waitress at the coffee shop and he found a decent job that he loves doing.
Dante sees me at a table staring down the street as Raz and his girlfriend walk away. He sits down in the seat in front of me and wants to know what that was all about. I tell him that I play the role of whatever it is needed to help people. That I’m not a bad guy but sometimes it’s needed when people aren’t getting the message. He tries to figure out what I am but gets it wrong each time and wants me to answer but I tell him I can’t.
That even if I want to I wouldn’t answer it. I get him to ask me other questions, such as why now, how long have I’ve been doing this and if I’m dating anyone. The dream fast-forwards to a couple of years later with Dante and I at the same diner. This time it’s for personal reasons because we’re dating or something. Just know I woke up giggling and trying to go back to sleep because I was enjoying it.
