Ways to Relieve Boredom in a Power Outage |

A “power outage” refers to those times when regular electric service has been interrupted by damage to power lines or power stations due to storms, floods, land slides, earthquakes, and so on. During a disaster situation, electric power can be out for days or weeks.
Whatever the reason for it and hopefully nothing severe, it gets boring when the electricity is out. It’s easy enough to find something to do when it’s in the day but once it gets darker activities start becoming limited.
First thing first, you must always make sure you have plenty of batteries for your flashlights and candles on stock. Now below I will list ways to relieve your boredom.
1. Play cards: Black Jack, Go Fish, Bridge, War, Uno, Gin Rummy, etc.
2. Board games: Battleship, Chess, Checkers, Guess Who?, Mad Gab, Monopoly, Clue, Pictionary, Scrabble, Sorry!, Twister, Trivial Pursuit, Taboo, Dirty Minds, Charades, etc.
3. Draw
4. Read a book
5. Exercise: May not sound fun but it’s better to do something productive then sitting around bored.
6. Listen to music: Maybe you were luckily enough to charge it before the power outage happen. If not, see if you have a battery power radio or a hand-cranked radio.
7. Watch a movie: This depends if you have a portable DVD player and if it’s fully charged.
8. Laptop: If it’s fully charged you can always find something on it to keep you busy for a while. I just recommend that you switch the power plan to “Power Saver” if you want the energy to last longer.
9. Work: Great time to buck down and get some homework for school done. Or work that your boss told you to do. If not, try to do some studying then.
10. Clean: Your room, the house, your desk, etc.
11. Write: You could be writing a story, a to-do list, an article, a poem, a song, writing in a diary or journal.
12. Pets: If you have any spend some time with them, play and show them you love them.
13. Talk: Have a conversation with your family or friends. Maybe even tell ghost stories.
14. Hobbies: Everyone has one, just choose one that doesn’t involve electricity like painting, knitting, organizing a collection, playing an instrument, origami, scrapbooking, etc.
15. Sleep or take a nap.
16. Play on your battery-powered gaming device: It could be your PlayStation Portable, Gameboy or any other gaming device that works on batteries.
17. Puzzles: Put together a puzzle or do a crossword, sudoku, etc.
18. Pamper yourself: Paint your nails, put on a facial mask, take a bubble bath, drink some tea (or whatever you like) or soak your feet. Just relax and enjoy it.
19. Go star glazing if it’s possible.
20. Eat: Although you are limited on what you can eat because you cannot cook in the dark but there are tons of great snacks. Some include: Granola bars, dry cereal, cookies, sandwiches, cold pizza, cold pasta, chips and salsa, brownies and more. Get creative. Maybe have a little BBQ party outside if the weather is decent. Or do a camping theme or something.
Hopefully people will read this before they have a power outage. =)
