I honesty detest religious people who bash and hate on something without ACTUALLY knowing completely what something is really about. A good example would be Harry Potter just because there's "witchcraft" in it. Yes, there is witchcraft but the book is FICTIONAL, fantasy, and does NOT enforce the usage or teachings of witchcraft onto the readers.
I'm Catholic, I read all the books and you do not see me taking it seriously and converting to witchcraft just because I read the books and enjoyed it. I'm a strong believer in God. My faith was NOT even challenge when reading it, because that book is just a tale and it doesn't try to convert people into witchcraft. I also know that many Christians have read it and haven't been "corrupted". If one worries about children reading I think that as long as a child is told that this stuff is fake and they are properly educated in Christ, you have nothing to worry about.
It's not real, it's fictional and meant to entertain. The book was great and it actually got many young folks to READ and it's important that they read more. Besides, even though magic is an integral part of the series, the emphasis is made more to the point that magic is not a cure-all. Total reliance on magic causes corruption (i.e. Voldemort). True strength of character is found throughout the series with those who don't always rely on magic. They instead rely on their inner strength, their friends, etc. I find that to be a good message unlike other books I see (i.e. Twilight).
Anyway, I actually find it blasphemous that people jump to conclusion about something fictional, even more so when they see it with judging eyes and judge those that read it. Do they think that everyone is not capable of telling what's reality and fiction? Do they forget that...
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Matthew 7:12).”
Or better yet, "Don't condemn others, and God won't condemn you. God will be as hard on you as you are on others! He will treat you exactly as you treat them. You can see the speck in your friend's eye, but you don't notice the log in your own eye." (MATTHEW 7:1-3)
It's the same with my favorite television show, Supernatural. I watch the show all the time and I wasn't going ballistic just because the plot was heading into an Heaven and Hell storyline. It's just as fictional and meant for enjoyment -- entertainment. No one is claiming that it's the new gospel and that everything in it is true and accurate. So it bothers me when I see someone say, "What a bad show. It goes against Christianity! This show and its fans deserve to burn in hell."
That's just wrong and disrespectful. They use hate and their hateful judgment to condemn those that watch it and love it just because they disagree. What they should have done is point out the flaws -- the inaccuracies, but to outright ban it or suggest that seeing it is somehow gravely sinful, or for those to "burn in hell", is a bit excessive. Don't spread hate and let it consume you. If you really dislike something, please KNOW what you're talking about and have REAL REASONS to support your views/opinions.
Give the show a chance and watched it from the very first season to it's most recent episode. Please don't skip anything either (even if it's boring or whatnot) or watch it in random order because by doing that, many miss the message in the show and don't pick up the subtle emotions in the characters . They'll lack a deep understanding with each character and it's not the "supernatural" stuff that makes the show. It's the people in it and sure, they aren't meant to be role models but what television show has character out there that are meant to be? And no, kid shows don't count because Supernatural isn't for kids.
If people watched it from the beginning and put aside their dislike and religious thoughts, they would see that it's about family, love, and sacrifice. Things that everyone holds close, no matter what you may believe in.
We all need to see things with open hearts and open minds. It can be difficult at times to do so but it allows us to better understand things and to make the right decision without hate clouding us.
