It's a fruit-flavored chewy Japanese candy sold by Morinaga & Company. The soft, chewy candy was first released in Japan in 1975. It was re-released in its current shape (a stick of several individually-wrapped candies) in February 1986. These candies are individually wrapped in logo-stamped foil or plain white wax paper (depending on the localization). Each individual candy piece consists of an outer white coating (this is the same for most flavors) and a colored, flavored internal layer. It comes in many different favors (such as Apple, Banana, Blood Orange, Blueberry, Cola, Dragon Fruit, Grape, Grapefruit, Kiwi, Lemon, Lime, Mango, Passion Fruit, Peach, Pineapple, Strawberry Cheesecake, and many others) and the one that I've recently gotten was a bag of Strawberry favored Hi-Chews. It was absolutely delicious! As soon as I put the candy in my mouth the smell and sweet taste of strawberry hit me. It totally made me want to eat it all day and I had to force myself to leave some for later and to eat as I write this so the taste and memory of it will be fresh. I so recommend for everyone to try this at least once because it's certainly worth it.
