I noticed something when I got to Gwen Campbell's death. I'm surprise I haven't noticed it sooner but I guess it was just something I wasn't looking for or really interested in keeping track of. But there aren't any female recurring characters. Well actually now, there aren't any because they're either died or had been phrased off. I have a feeling as to why though, it might be the female fans. More than likely because majority of the fandom consist of female fans. Just one female close to Sam or Dean's age and the fans get defensive and think that the female will hook up with one of them. Which will destroy their little fantasies of being with the character or pairing them with each other hence the term, wincest. Ew... Or they think the show would turn into the three amigos and not be focus on the brothers which I think is bull.
Anyway, it's kind of sad to see. I would have like to see at least one, ONE female character that was tough and not a potential love interest. You know, a female hunter their age, who's badass, doesn't take s**t from anyone and not interested in getting involve with people but also level headed/knows that not everything is black & white. At the same time has personal issues that make her feel human/realistic because of what she does and is connected with her reason to being pushed/getting involved in the hunting world. And I would like for her to at least last a long while without being killed off or disappearing without a satisfying reason like they last heard from her, she was in a mission to hunt down a ancient relic or something. At least with that little input we'll know she's alive, going strong and doing her own thing. That's if they decided to bring in another female hunter into the show. Otherwise, I don't think she would last long if she's not a hunter and hasn't been doing it for years. One of the characters that comes close to the description is Ellen but barely. Jo does too but I see her as a naive little sister to the boys, one who wants to make a difference out there like they are instead of being protected. When she was introduce I felt like I could relate to her because she seemed like a rebelling teenager/young woman who just wanted to be free. To make her own decisions instead of being coddle and kept under her mother's wings/treated as a child. I understand the feeling of being treated like a child by your mother who's only being difficult because she feels like she's doing the right thing through her eyes. Still I don't see why the fans didn't change their minds about not hating Jo. Her and Ellen were fleshed out pretty well, so much that their deaths were an emotional impact, at least to me they were. Bella was another character that fans hated too. I wasn't sure how to make of her when she was introduce. I was curious as to what her role was but also annoyed/not happy with her actions. They made her out to be a b***h but that's understandable and more so once the fans learned the reason why. But of course, fans complained so much that instead of having an interesting arc coming up, they wrote her out and killed her off. This disappointed me, because I thought she was an interesting character and could have been fleshed out more if the fans had given her a chance. There are many other females characters that the fans hate on. Even Ruby and they would have killed her off earlier if she wasn't such an important character to the plot. That's what I like about Supernatural...not that they kill off the females but that they listen to what the fans want. It's nice that they take into consideration of what we don't like but sometimes I feel like the fans ruin what was suppose to happen.
I trust that the Supernatural creators etc. won't lose sight of the main focus of the show (which are the brothers and stuff) and that they would have very good reasons for characters doing what they do and for appearing. If they didn't do what they did there wouldn't be a show in the first place. So fans, if future characters that happen to be female are introduce or bought back into the picture please give them a chance. I know we didn't like it when the heads at CW pushed back the season's new episode that Friday just to show Vampire Dairies and Nikita. The reason they did that was because they feared that the ratings would be low since it would be on at the same time as the first new season episode of American Idol. That's an example of interference, they should just trust the fans to tune in to their favorite show. So fans, we know we were pissed that they did that. I know we would be even more pissed if they ever interfere with the show like telling them to kill off Castiel or Bobby or changing something we love about it. So please, give every character a chance, especially the females and trust the folks of Supernatural. They just might surprise you and create a character you'll like a lot, just like when they introduce Bobby, Castiel, etc. They never expected them to become well liked, not even the actors themselves thought they'll get recurrenting roles once they did finished.
