Supernatural: The Animation -- June 9, 2010
I've heard the most interesting and greatest news ever! Apparently, while surfing the internet I've come across some news regarding my favorite TV show, Supernatural. On an official Japanese Warner Bros. website, they announced that an anime version of the series (entitled Supernatural: The Animation) is in the making. It's set to debut in Japan in January 2011, the series will be produced by famed Japanese anime studio Madhouse (some of their works are Death Note, Paprika, Vampire Hunter D, Summer Wars). Shigeyuki Miya and Atsuko Ishizuka will be co-directing, with Kripke credited as the project creator. Madhouse co-founder Masao Maruyama will serve as executive producer, with Naoya Takayama supervising the scripts and Takahiro Yoshimatsu designing the characters. Yuya Uchida and Hiroki Touchi, who voice Sam and Dean for the Japanese dub of the live-action series, will reprise their roles.
Edit: The anime's first season will consist of 22 episodes; while the storyline will cover the first two seasons of the live-action series. So not only will they remake the best episodes from the live-action version, but also depict original episodes not seen in the live-action version. Those original episodes will include prologues of the Winchester brothers' childhood, anime-only enemies, and episodes featuring secondary characters from the live-action version.
Warner Home Video will release the first two episodes on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan on January 12, 2011; episodes 3 through 12 will ship on February 2, and the rest on April 6.
Jared Padalecki has officially signed on to dub the English language for Sam. While Jensen Ackles has only signed to do the last two episodes of the series for Dean.
