It was nearly four years ago that I once came across the term, weeaboo in a forum. I had no idea what it meant but a couple of people were calling a troll a weeaboo and it had me on google looking for a definition. Apparently it means, a person, a weeb for short is a non-Asian who has any interest in anything Japan related that would be somewhere comparable to occult worship. Along with attempting to be an actual Japanese, where it always ends up with said weeb failing hard as they cannot learn about Japan through viewing anime, J-dramas and listening to J-pop or J-rock only. They are basically posers, who badly want to go to Japan, speak Japanese, date Japanese, dress as their favorite cosplay or lolita outfit or whatever they saw in anime that looks cool to them. They will talk non-stop about how everyone should take an interest in Japanese "culture" and how it will dominate the future because they are simply amazing. They even complain about the country in which they live in comparison to Japan. which seems to magically have no problems at all. Because according to them, it's perfect, with no flaws/problems such as gang rapes, suicides, bullying, peer pressure and so on...that those thing don't exist or that the weebs don't bother actually learning the "culture" because they only learn things from animes. An example of their conversation is this: "It's kawaii how L looks like a chibi panda, desu yo ne!?" "Hai! He is so kawaii! If only that baka Light look just as kawaii." "Sugoi! Gaara-kun looks like a panda too!" "Nani?" "Ne! He's from Naruto. The red haired one, the Kazekage of the Sand village." "Oh! Okay. Sugoi!" Sure, a person can have an interest in wanting to learn about a country's culture like Japan. But they should truly want to learn about all of the culture and research it. Japan is very little like what we see in anime or manga and weaboos overlook this fact because all they see Japan as a fantasy world where it's filled with catgirls, schoolgirls, cosplay, maid cafes, samurais, ninjas, and swords. It is a rude awakening for many that go to Japan and realize that in urban areas it is crowded, busy, and really nothing like what you see in movies. Most people in Japan treat foreigners with apathy ranging to disdain and the strict, traditional collectivist culture is in reality a major change from western ideology when you are actually living it instead of just watching from afar on your TV set.
Again, there's more to Japan than anime, lolita, j-pop, j-rock, or whatever comes from there. Weeaboos never take the time to actually learn the language or look up the history and truly study and learn about the culture, the good and the bad parts of it. That is what a weeaboo is. So if someone says you're a weeaboo because you like anime than they are wrong. Liking anime or liking Japan doesn't make a person a weeaboo. That's like saying a non-American that is interested/likes Family Guy (or America) makes them a wannabe American. Nor liking Hollywood films or American cartoons either. Many casual anime fans hate weeaboos because they make them look bad. Those who don't know or aren't knowledgeable about anime fans start to stereotype them all as weeaboos when they meet an weeb who gives them a bad impression. It's similar to fake goths, who think writing dark poetry, worshipping the devil and dressing in black makes them a true goth. Point is, don't judge people and to make sure you know your facts, whether it's the full meaning of a term or the culture and history of a country before claiming things. Otherwise, I hope this educated those who've never hear this word before.
