Linda's breath hitched as the view unfolded before her. The ray of light made the clear carbon well fitted into the gold ring shimmer and for a moment, it seemed to glow with an almost natural light inside. She glanced at her best friend of 20 years, her senses still dimmed from her joy and adoration. She could not recall the little speech of his love for her, but in this moment, she could really care less. Robert and her were always very close, closer than a brother and sister. She even went as far as taking him as one, since she was an only child herself. This was something she had never imagined would happen.
"Linda...?" Her name took her from her memories and she returned his gaze, tears obstructing her view.
"Y-yes, Robert...?" Her question was tentative, but knowing, only making her heart flutter in anticipation.
"Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" His words were so gentle and heartfelt, she didn't know how much longer she would last. When the last letters slipped passed his lips, she was stunned. Every feeling inside her told her to scream 'Yes' and tackle him to the ground, but she was hesitant.
This was a huge step for the both of them. 20 years of friendship was one thing, but marrying your best friend? This was serious business. Her concentrated look must have looked like she didn't want to accept his proposal and Robert looked forlorn just then. Perhaps it was too soon? Robert's gaze averted itself from Linda's and made to get up, but Linda stoped him.
"Yes, Robert," she replied at last, "I will."
THE END.
That's it! Not very long, right? I don't intend for them to be any longer, though there may be a few that will be. Thanks for reading!
