A strawberry jelly filled donut. A delicious sugar powdered pastry. I went through all that trouble for those few wonderful bites of donut. It all started the day before....erm night before. My boss gave me a ride home since my bike got a flat tire. As I walked away from the car he yelled out that he would pick me up and I would just have to text him. The following morning I awoke and texted my boss twice. No reply. Well shoot! This was my first important and MANDATORY meeting. A promise of donuts, coffee, and free books. I walked down a sketchy road in my nice dress, high heels, and a small cardigan. I called work to tell them I would be late then asked if my boss was there. He was. "WHAT?! How is he there and not picking me up?" Those were my first thoughts. I got him on the phone and he said he would pick me up. Finally. So I told him where I was then I sat down in the grass to wait. My legs got cold, numb, then dead. I couldn't feel my legs at all. For once I got lucky and a taxi was going by. I quickly hailed it hoping I had enough money. After talking to the driver he let me slide into the back seat. I watched the meter and counting out my few dollars out as we went. I gave him all the money I had on me then got out in front of the bookstore. Everyone looked at me through the glass walls and one of the managers opened the door for me. I was cold, tired, and VERY hungry. My boss was apologetic as I clocked-in and I did forgive him. It wasn't all his fault. Apparently the night before when he gave me his humber I forgot to put in the first digit. I went up to the bin that held the free books. Not one book looked good enough to keep. Not even to pick up to read when on break! I nabbed a donut and let one of my co-workers tell me what I missed from the meeting.
And let me tell you that is the most memorable donut I will ever eat.
