Yes, it's true. I fainted at school today.
Do you want to hear the story? Well, read below. *clears throat and shakes paper*
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Alyssa. One day, Alyssa woke up at 6:25, which normally wouldn't be a problem, but she had show choir at 7 at school. She quickly showered, ran down the stairs, got her bag ready, brushed her hair and was out the door.
If you were too stupid enough to realize, Alyssa skipped breakfast. Now, where were we....
Ah, yes. So Alyssa gets to school and is feeling giddy she can see her friends again, yet she feels tired because she was up till nearly eleven the night before, which apparently is so terrible for an eighth grader. (Did you notice my sarcasm?)
Anyways, they begin to practice transistions from one song to the next, not even dancing yet, and Alyssa begins to feel very hot. She wore a sweatshirt because she usually likes long sleeves because her arms are hairy and ugly. Moving on. She takes off the sweatshirt anyways and realizes she wore a white t-shirt and... certain white undergarments.
She doesn't care. She goes to the water fountain for a drink of water. Upon going back to her spot, Alyssa still feels like she hasn't taken off her sweatshirt, so she puts it back on because she doesn't want to expose her arms.
Alyssa had had a cold that week, and it was still there. She sniffled and coughed some as she began to feel overheated. Her legs began to shake, and the edges of her vision became black. She blinked a few times, hoping it would go away like it normally did.
It didn't. The dizziness kicked in, and she turned around to face her friend, Sarah. "Sarah, I feel like I'm going to faint," she whispered. "I'm going to the nurse." Sarah put her hand on Alyssa's back to guide her down the risers to Mr. P. Mr. P said it was fine that she could go to the nurse, but no one followed her to make sure she would be okay.
Down the hallway to the nurse's office, the blackness increased. Alyssa felt as if she was drowing in darkness. She wondered if she was dying or going blind.
Feeling as if she couldn't make it to the nurse's office, Alyssa stepped into the main office. Her vision was getting worse, and she can just barely see the outline of the people in there, which there weren't many.
"I need to see the nurse," she said to the secretary, leaning on the desk; she felt like she couldn't support herself any longer.
"I don't know if she's in yet," said the secretary. "Can I get your name?" Alyssa told the secretary her name, and then the secretary said, "Why don't you go sit down?"
At that moment, the blackness became unbearable, and Alyssa let it swallow her up. Her chin and arm hit the desk as she crumpled to the floor.
A few seconds later, she awakens, and the nurse is there. The nurse takes her blood pressure, helps her up gently, and takes her to her office where she told her to lie down and drink two mini-glasses of water. Alyssa is later picked up by her mom and goes to the doctor, only to find out she's fine.
.......and that's how I fainted. Here's probably why: no breakfast, too much exercise in track and dance, too much "running" to activities, and my cold. A combination, let's say.
It really scared me, although I know people faint all the time. I thought I was going to die.
I know what to do if I ever feel faintlike again: put my head between my knees and take deep breaths. The doctor said that would prevent it.
So, please people: always bring someone with you to the nurse if you feel like you could collapse or vomit.
