Obligatory Christmas Family Gathering Rant |

So, we had a family gathering today. Fortunately, it was a bit smaller than usual, and thus a tad less draining. I'm still exhausted, though.
I spent a good deal of timing attempting/wishing to read my new zombie anthology (a gift from my father, as my immediate family opened gifts yesterday, and so far the book is really good even though I'm only about 40 pages in) because one of my aunts kept trying to engage me in conversation after I made the mistake of sitting in the corner of a couch in a fairly major room, and later I was accosted by the same aunt after I was forced to sit in said room as people opened presents that had nothing to do with me whatsoever.
So, yeah. I was a bit ticked, especially when she interrupted my precious zombies to give me a decidedly parental lecture on various scholarships. Personally, I think she overstepped her bounds, though my parents disagree. Whatever, my experience, my verdict: she was out of line. I didn't say anything, only patiently nodded and tried to keep small talk while simultaneously maintaining a desperate grip on the book I so longed to read.
Did I ever mention that I have no patience whatsoever for small talk? I absolutely can't stand it. If you don't have anything to say, then keep your mouth shut. For pity's sake, don't try to make up random, shallow, boring, and utterly breath-wasting topics to prattle on about uselessly. I'll engage in small talk if I have to in order to be polite, but the second I get half the chance, I'm hauling my a** the hell out of Dodge. Which I did.
Ugh. Small talk. *Shudders in disgust.* Yahoo. And I was interrupted with it 6-12 times in a 1.5-hour span. It's enough to make one moan like one of the precious zombies I tried so hard to read about.
Anyhow... moral of the story? Never, ever interrupt Aurah's zombie reading with small talk.
Note: I will be out of town for a week or two, and therefore there will be no more random babbles for my imaginary readers. Sorry about lack up journal updates, Invisible Bob-kun. sad
